With the recent announcement that Dietmar Exler will succeed Stephen Cannon as the CEO and president of Mercedes-Benz USA, many are also awaiting the news about the potential inheritor of the position held by Daimler boss Dr. Dieter Zetsche. According to an article from Auto Evolution, citing the German publication Manager-Magazin as source, the most likely person who will take over the throne of Zetsche is Ola Kaellenius. The supervisory board of Daimler decided to extend the contract of the company’s current CEO, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, until 2019. The announcement came from Chairman Manfred Bischoff during a meeting with investors in Berlin last Wednesday, according to Bloomberg. Dr. Zetsche’s term CEO is set to expire next year. It should be noted that his contract was renewed for only three-years in 2013 instead of the original plan to retain him up to five more years. Daimler AG, through its Mercedes-Benz and Smart brands, started 2015 on a high note. The group displayed impressive sales this January compared to the same month of the previous year. According to a Wall Street Journal report, the two brands showed a double-digit increase in January sales on a year-on-year comparison. The sales of the Mercedes-Benz marque grew by 15 percent compared to its performance in the same month of last year. However, despite former CEO Lieb’s transgressions, the fact is that Mercedes-Benz USA performed reasonably well under his stewardship.
