May 8th marks the start of the new car2go on-demand service in Birmingham, with 250 smart fortwo cars initially on offer for use within its free-floating home area that covers 21 square miles of the English city. Washington car2go Celebrates First Year of Service

The Washington, D.C. branch of Daimler’s car2go car-sharing service is celebrating its first year this month, a year marked by 19,000 registrations, and over 350,000 rides on the 350 smart fortwo units that members can use throughout the city. Over the past year, car2go Washington has added 150 new fortwo units in order to keep up with the demand. In addition, the branch has partnered with Washington, D.C.-based taxi booking and payment app myTaxi. After its first 90 days of operation in Seattle, it would seem that the car2go carsharing service is a hit. There have been 18,000 registrations over those first 3 months, showing that the city has embraced the point-to-point carsharing program with open arms. Seattle Officially Gets car2go

We reported on some spy shots of an entire fleet of car2go smart vehicles parked in the Seattle area, and speculated that it might be the start of a car2go car-sharing service in Seattle. Well, it’s official—car2go is set to be available in the busiest metropolis in the Pacific Northwest. The service will start on December 19, and there’s also an online membership registration. Car2go, the car-sharing network that uses smart fortwos announced their newest innovation – an application that evaluates driving style. The tool called “EcoScore” determines three factors, smooth driving, acceleration and rolling out a point value between 0 and 100. These values or factors that can be checked using a touch-screen display can help car2go clients to know if their driving style can positively or negatively affect the environment. The place is crawling with these cars, which according to Daimler aim to take over a big slice of the city’s growing urban auto per-minute rental pie. Car2go Now in Berlin

Berlin is now going to experience the convenience of the car2go system, the largest rental fleet company in the world. Starting April 26, Berlin residents can rent one of the 1,000 smart fortwos. All they need to sign up for it once and they will be able to pick up a smart and return it to any public parking space.
