Daimler with Biggest Contingent in Silvretta E-Car Rallye

When the 3rd Silvrette E-Car Rallye kicks off this July 5 at Montafon, Austria, Daimler will be sporting the largest contingent of cars with 7 cars powered by batteries or fuel cells. The Daimler lineup includes proven vehicles and units that will be competing at the event for the first time. The veterans are a couple of Mercedes-Benz A-Class E-CELL units, two B-Class F-CELL units, and an SLS AMG E-CELL. Rounding out the roster are the newcomers: two smart fortwo electric drive units. Mercedes Planning Two Hydrogen-Powered Cars

We all know that Mercedes-Benz has embraced the development of technology aimed at getting us mass-produced vehicles powered by hydrogen fuel cells. The company is on pace for a 2014 launch of the first model, but now it has been found that the German automaker won’t just be giving us a single unit—there’s a second model in the works. Near the tail-end last January, Mercedes-Benz kicked-off the F-Cell World Drive—taking 3 B-Class F-Cell vehicles on a trip around the globe in 5 legs on hydrogen power. That’s what the German Federal Ministry of Transport will now be able to do, as Mercedes-Benz has recently given the agency a new B-Class F-Cell vehicle. “Electric cars featuring fuel cell drives have the potential to revolutionize our mobility again.
