ADAC Recognizes Mercedes-Benz Innovations With Yellow Angel Award

adacaward 597x398 ADAC Recognizes Mercedes Benz Innovations With Yellow Angel AwardADAC, the German automobile association, has once again handed out one of its prestigious awards to Mercedes-Benz for new driver assistance technologies that were developed by Mercedes recently. Given the Yellow Angel award by ADAC in the Innovation & Environment category were the Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist systems.

Active Blind Spot Assist alerts the driver to the risk of collision brought about by an abrupt lane change and an unseen vehicle is by the side-view mirror’s blind spot.

Active Lane Keeping Assist uses ESP technology to bring the car back on track when the system detects the vehicle drifting out of its lane.

“This Yellow Angel award is a recognition not only of the innovation power of our company dedicates to road safety, it also reflects appreciation for our strategy of rapidly making new developments available in large-series production,” said Thomas Weber, Daimler member of the board for Research and Development.

Awards from organizations such as ADAC give additional prestige and impetus to the manufacturer to continually improve its products since it is a recognition from its peers in the industry that it is doing a good job of looking out for the customers that buy its products.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class Lauded as Value Champion

mercedes e300cdiBlue 597x397 Mercedes Benz E Class Lauded as Value Champion

The Mercedes-Benz E-Class was recently given the title of 2011 Value Champion after the executive sedan line emerged as the vehicle that had the lowest value loss among the upper segment. This assessment was made by Auto Bild magazine and EurotaxSchwacke, the German subsidiary of Glass’s Guide—the leading used-car price guide.

In the value retention assessment, it was found that a 4-year old E300 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY model still goes for over half of its original value—54.8 percent, to be exact. Mercedes-Benz vehicles have always been among the consistent top value retainers, and the streak continues up to 2010. This goes to show how highly regarded Merc vehicles are in the secondary market.

Other Merc vehicles that placed in the top three in other categories included the C-Class, the S-Class, the GLK as well as the M-Class. Among the models that were cited are the C250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, S250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY, GLK 350 CDI and the ML 350 CDI.

2011 SLS AMG is Playboy’s Car of the Year

2 sls amg 211 597x417 2011 SLS AMG is Playboys Car of the Year

While it’s not really one of the major validations of a car model’s success, it’s still nice to get recognized by publications that have wide readership. After all, that is still free (good) publicity. Not that the 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG still needs much hype, but winning the 2011 Playboy Car of the Year adds another feather on the cap of the luxury grand tourer.

It’s easy to see why the SLS AMG is worthy of being anyone’s Car of the Year. With those tantalizing curves on its exterior, the raging 563hp from the 6.2L V8 engine and a 3.7-second time to go from 0-62 mph, the car is simply drool-worthy in terms of appearance and performance. Not to mention those gullwing doors look like the Playboy bunny’s ears when opened up.

Other Playboy Car of the Year category winners include the following: the 2011 Honda CR-Z for Best Hybrid; the 2011 Cadillac CTS-V Coupe for Best Coupe; the 2011 Mazda 2 for Best Bang for the Buck; the 2011 Porsche Boxster Spyder for Best Convertible; the 2011 Aston Martin Rapide for Best Sports Sedan; the 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee for Best SUV; the 2011 Chevrolet Volt for Best Plug-in; and the 2011 Hyundai Equus tabbed as the Most Likely to Succeed.

PRE-SAFE technology caps two Euro NCAP awards for safety

mercedes benz receives two euro ncap advanced awards 25008 1 597x421 PRE SAFE technology caps two Euro NCAP awards for safety

Another award has been vested on German premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz. This time, it’s from the European New Car Assessment Programme, or Euro NCAP. The two awards were won with the company’s anticipatory occupant protection system, dubbed PRE-SAFE, and the PRE-SAFE Brake driver assistance systems.

So now you’re wondering what these systems do. The PRE-SAFE technology is linked to the vehicle’s Brake Assist and Electronic Stability Program, or ESP, as well as to other driver assistance systems. The sensors on these systems then provide the PRE-SAFE with critical driving information within milliseconds, enabling it to respond at high speeds.

For example, the system will be able to detect if the vehicle is about to skid, such as when the driver suddenly brakes strongly. Meanwhile, upon PRE-SAFE Brake intervention, the electronic control unit automatically repositions the front passenger seat in a safety configuration to  brace the occupant for impact. At that moment, the system will also automatically roll up the front windows and close the sunroof to protect the occupants from debris that may vector into the vehicle. The window airbags, on the other hand, will protect the occupants in the event of side impact or roll-over. The system also pulls on the seat belts to ensure that the occupants are kept in their seats.

So you see, the two awards were well-deserved. Aren’t you glad you’re a fan? Stay tuned for more updates right here at BenzInsider.

GM nominates the R-Class for North American Car of the Year

mercedes benz r class 597x372 GM nominates the R Class for North American Car of the Year

Daimler AG and General Motors were once tied together in a partnership that didn’t quite go as planned. Back then, too many things were at stake and both companies realized that they didn’t make the perfect team. But now, things look better between the two car manufacturing giants, especially with GM’s nomination of the Mercedes-Benz R-Class for this year’s North American Car of the Year award.

The award is exclusive in the United States. Why? Because it isn’t bested by just one media company. An entire organization of automotive magazine, television, radio, newspaper and online journalists from the US and Canada team up to find suitable candidates for nomination.

This is the 18th year that the body will be giving out the award. Mercedes-Benz was once nominated this year as well for the E-Class model line, but didn’t quite make it to the top spot.

This news is confirmed by none other than Mercedes-Benz of Long Beach, a company which strives to give the highest amount of quality service in all of its departments as well as keep their prices competitive. MB Long Beach has a highly able sales staff, factory-trained service and parts experts, as well as their immense selection of new and Certified Pre-Owned vehicles.

So will the R-Class win the prestigious award next year? Only time will tell. For now, stay tuned for more updates here at BenzInsider.
