The Mercedes-Benz E-Class is the best car in the upper executive segment, while the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is the best sports car. These are the results of a reader survey conducted by one of Germany’s well-known specialist car magazines, “auto motor und sport”. The E-Class and SLS have therefore both walked away with the title “Best car of 2010″.
The editorial team of “auto motor und sport” asked readers to vote on some 326 vehicles across ten categories, and no fewer than 96,784 respondents answered the call to cast their votes in the traditional reader survey to find the best cars of the year.

The Mercedes-Benz S 400 HYBRID, the B 180 NGT and the smart mhd (micro hybrid drive) are the most environmentally friendly automobiles in their class. These are the findings from extensive analyses conducted by the independent experts at the internationally well-known environmental institute à–ko-Trend.
In the view of the Institute, they not only deliver excellent results in terms of fuel consumption, exhaust emissions and noise, but also excel by virtue of environmentally compatible production, choice of materials and logistics. They also feature particularly environmentally compatible systems such as a start/stop function and hybrid or natural gas drive.

The new SLS AMG is to receive an internationally renowned design award, the “iF product design award 2010″. The iF product design award was first presented in 1953, and ranks among the most important design awards of all. The 24-member jury chose 778 entries from around 2500 candidates in 16 categories; the SLS was up against numerous well-known competitors in the “Transportation Design” category.

Over 150 journalists form Germany, Austria and Switzerland have used their expertise and cast the vote on the top cars in 2010. The even was organized by Motorinformationsdienst (mid) and had over 80 cars in 8 different categories nominated, the experts picked the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate as the best business class car, while the Gullwing Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is the best newcomer in the “luxury” category.
In the “business” category, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate took top honors by quite a significant margin. The premium lifestyle estate has caused a great deal of excitement since its launch with its distinct, dynamic and at the same time elegant design, and also sets new standards in safety, comfort, quality, economy and functionality
The new Gullwing Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG also moved effortlessly into first place in its “luxury” category. Its exciting design featuring the gullwing doors harks back to that sporting legend of the 1950’s – the 300 SL.

The Austrian Automobile Association (ARBà–) has presented its “2009 Car of the Year” award to the Mercedes-Benz E-Class, choosing the successful luxury saloon as Austria’s favourite premium car.
For the 26th time, the Austrian Automobile Association (ARBà–) asked a renowned jury of experts and readers of the ARBà– club journal Freie Fahrt to choose Austria’s favourite car. Candidates are assessed based on criteria such as technical perfection, design, economy, reliability, safety, eco-friendliness and value for money. In the premium category, the jury and readers chose the Mercedes-Benz E-Class as the clear winner with 177 out of a possible 195 points. The coveted Austrian Car of the Year Award 2009, presented by the Austrian Automobile Association (ARBà–), is Austria’s premier car award.

No less than three Mercedes model series at once have achieved the highest rating of five stars in the more stringent EuroNCAP test – the E-Class, GLK and C-Class. During the course of its development to date, the new E-Class has successfully come through over 150 high-speed crash tests and more than 5000 realistic crash simulations. These not only included the various impact configurations prescribed for rating tests and worldwide operating approvals, but also the in-house, Mercedes crash tests derived from accident research findings.
The EuroNCAP organization (European New Car Assessment Program) has made its test conditions more stringent this year. All the individual tests are separately rated and consolidated to produce an overall result. Front occupant protection accounts for 50 percent of the result, child and pedestrian protection for 20 percent each, and the new test criterion of driver assistance systems for 10 percent.

The readers of the Diners Club Magazine have elected the Mercedes E 250 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY as the “Car of the year with the best power-to-economy ratio”. Thanks to its state-of-the-art diesel technology, the 150-kW/204-hp engine burns just 5.3 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers on the combined NEDC cycle. This equates to 139 grams of CO2 per kilometer.

The European bus and coach jury at this year’s international bus and coach fair, “Busworld Kortrijk”, has crowned the Mercedes-Benz Travego, currently available since the beginning of 2009 in its third generation, “Coach of the Year 2010″. The trophy was awarded by Stuart Jones, president of the Coach of the Year jury, to Michael Gà¶pfarth, manager of the Mercedes-Benz Bus and Coach Unit of EvoBus GmbH, on 15 October.
The Travego emerged victorious after the jury of experts from 17 European countries put the Travego through its paces against four other European competitors at the Coach Euro Test in June 2009 in Senlis, Paris. The Coach Euro Test takes place every two years and is one of the most important coach tests in the bus and coach sector.

The EU Commission has presented Daimler AG with an eSafety Award in the “Industry & Technology” category. The prize was awarded for the company’s longstanding commitment and pioneering role in the introduction of vehicle technologies designed to improve traffic safety. Zoran Stancic, deputy director general of the EU-commission, presented the award to Prof. Dr. Jà¶rg Breuer, senior manager for Active Safety at Daimler AG.

Mercedes-Benz has the most satisfied customers in the premium segment: In the Service Satisfaction category of the latest J.D. Power and Associates 2009 Germany VOSS Study, the brand with the star ranks highest among the premium brands. The J.D. Power survey evaluates overall vehicle ownership satisfaction in the categories of Vehicle Quality, Vehicle Appeal, Vehicle Ownership Costs and Service Satisfaction.
This year’s survey polled 16,283 drivers in Germany online with regard to aspects such as service consultant friendliness, service facility conditions, and the thoroughness of work performed. Across all assessment categories for service satisfaction, Mercedes-Benz performed well above the industry average. Mercedes-Benz finished fourth in the overall industry ranking of the J.D. Power survey’s service satisfaction factor.
