2015 residual value champion the sls amg 597x400 Mercedes Benz vehicles named 2015 Residual Value Giants

The title of 2015 “Residual Value Giants” has been awarded to the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG super sports car, the CLS and the B-Class by Bahr & Fess Forecasts and Focus Online. The award recognizes these models to be the most resilient of all automotive units considered for the award in terms of resale value over the next four years.

Even in the upper mid-range segment, the CLS 350 CDI even at four years of use will still sell at more than half of its retail value – 54 percent to be exact. Meanwhile, the B-Class 180 CDI outperforms the rest of its competitors in the compact van segment by managing to retain up to 51.5 percent of its retail value. The SLS AMG, on the other hand, retains the highest resale value of all at 59 percent, thanks largely to the multitude of fans wanting to get their hands on the super sports car.

Joining these three models are the C 220 CDI station wagon (51 percent), the E-Class coupe (54 percent), the GLK 250 CDI (56 percent), and the E-Class Cabriolet whose resale value after four years remains at 56.5 percent.

Coming in 2nd in the luxury class segment is the S-Class 250 CDI, followed by the E 200 CDI which won in the upper midrange segment. The SLK 350 on the other hand ranked third overall in the sports cars division.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class Takes Two Titles in “Off Road” Reader Survey

G Class 597x422 Mercedes Benz G Class Takes Two Titles in “Off Road” Reader Survey

The recent reader survey from “Off Road” saw the Mercedes-Benz G-Class awarded with two wins, taking first place in both the Luxury off-road vehicle category and in the Classic category. The wins put the G-Class in the specialist publication’s winners’ circle for the eighth year, and as such staked its claim as the Off-road Vehicle of the Year.

The G-Class was not the only winner for Mercedes-Benz, however. The Unimog multi-purpose four wheel drive medium truck was also considered by a majority of Off Road readers to be the best in the Special Vehicles category.

With over three decades of production under its belt, the G-Class is the longest-serving model from the folks at Mercedes-Benz. For the current model lineup, prospective buyers can choose between a trio of body variants. You have the short-wheelbase station wagon, the long-wheelbase version and the convertible. These can be purchased with a BlueTEC V6 diesel engine that is not only environmentally-friendly but also goes for 210 horsepower, or a 5.5L petrol engine with an output of 388 horsepower. Dynamic handling and superior performance drive systems are both at the core of the G-Class, with the technology needed to handle tough off-road paths.

There is also the flagship model, the G 55 AMG, which delivers 507 horsepower with 700 Nm of torque. It is only available in the four-dour long-wheelbase variant.

Active Brake Assist 2 System Bags FuturAuto Award

mercedes benz actros gets upgraded safety 22513 2 597x398 Active Brake Assist 2 System Bags FuturAuto Award

Mercedes-Benz vehicle systems seem to be winning awards left and right. The most recent win involves the Active Brake Assist 2 system on the Actros line of heavy-duty trucks from the German automaker, after the system beat 16 other candidates for the coveted FuturAuto Award.

The system, barely introduced three months ago at Hanover’s International Motor Show, was awarded the FuturAuto 2011 award in Brussels. This award is given yearly by Belgian motoring journalists to recognize innovative and notable developments where vehicle safety, green technology, fuel economy and comfort level are concerned.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks head honcho Hubertus Troska was present at the awarding ceremony and cited the system’s contributions to the improvement of traffic safety. “With this assistance system, which can now recognise both vehicles moving ahead and stationary obstacles, we have made our Actros, the world’s safest truck, even safer,” said Troska.

The Active Brake Assist 2 system relies on tried and tested radar technology to detect those aforementioned obstacles. The best thing about it is that lighting conditions and weather have no effect on the system. Even if the system is unable to prevent 100 percent of all accidents, it can slow down the vehicle enough to reduce the speed upon impact and thus keep damage and injury to a minimum.

This award follows the Yellow Angel awards given to Mercedes-Benz’s other safety systems, the Active Blind Spot Assist and Active Lane Keeping Assist. It’s nice to see the automaker’s dedication to improving the overall safety on the vehicles it produces, from the most compact sedan to the largest freight truck.
