Many enthusiasts have been dismayed by BMW’s announcement of using diesel engines for its M-badged high-performance variants. Despite its successes in world endurance races as shown by Audi’s domineering diesel race cars, one cannot equate race-bred diesel engines and fuels with the more common everyday diesels found from econoboxes to big rig trucks. Economy, sure. High performance? Not at this point.

So it’s with a sigh of relief when we hear from AMG head Ola Källenius that diesels aren’t a consideration for Mercedes’ high performance cars. Staying committed to gasoline-powered drivetrains, Källenius went on to say that diesel engines can only compromise AMG’s lineup. Adding that petrol engines have the obvious benefits in terms of sound, weight, agility and response, he gave as an example AMG’s biturbo 5.5 liter unit, which while producing 560 horsepower, is highly efficient given its use of direct injection and forced induction.

As all enthusiasts know, the GT-R has become the benchmark for affordable performance cars and stock, it offers levels of performance that few cars can match. Although its price of admission is cheap, the Nissan’s maintenance requirements approach those of exotic cars. But as with most Japanese cars, even the Nissan GT-R comes off a mass production line, which cannot be said for the Black Series cars from AMG. Despite looking like a porky old geezer’s car, this SL65 AMG Black Series matches the all-wheel drive GT-R’s acceleration and walks away from there.

Grime-laden and ghetto-looking with its duct-taped bumper, this prototype G-Class was caught on candid camera in a recent test session. But this isn’t just any old G-Class you’re looking at, because it’s a test mule for the upcoming G65 AMG that’s being shown at the Geneva Motor Show in March.

For now, the only noticeable aesthetic changes are the bumper openings, which will have intakes for two additional heat exchangers. They will definitely be needed because under the hood will be Mercedes’ 6-liter V12, which will be producing 612 horsepower after a massage by AMG. If the G65 follows some of the cues of the G55, also expect side exit exhausts to sound off that V12 engine’s bark. If you need to ask, this top-of-the-line G-Class is expected to sell for a quarter million Euros.

If you can get yourself on the list of lucky buyers, the C63 AMG Black Series will go on sale this coming January for 115,000 Euros.

Gifted with spanking new tires from Vossen CV-1 and 22-inch rims from Need 4 Speed, this brand new kit is called the Walk Black Bison Edition of the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG. There’s nothing much to say about it as this is just an exterior kit and it remains the same under the hood.
