A-Class CDI Sport To Be Available By March 2013

Coming in March 2012 is another A-Class derivative that will be known as the A220 CDI Sport. Now, diesel and sport have traditionally been terms that aren’t put together when describing a car. All that has changed, however, with the evolution of prototype endurance racers that have been consistent champions at Le Mans and other venues. Powering the A220 CDI Sport is a tuned version of the Type OM651 engine. With its modified exhaust and 2.1 liter displacement, this diesel puts out 170 horsepower, with a corresponding 260 ft-lbs. of torque. Coupled to the engine is a 7-speed DCT. Complementing this perky diesel are finishing touches that set the CDI Sport… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Posts Anime Vid To Introduce A-Class

As the saying goes, “When in Rome…”, well, you know the rest. Following the weird and wonderful culture that is Japan, Mercedes-Benz has posted an anime video to introduce the A-Class. Unlike Western countries where cartoons and comics are for tots, manga and anime aficionados in Japan span generations. So, it’s actually an inspired choice for Mercedes-Benz to use an anime video to introduce their compact car. Japan is a country where Kei cars are a common sight, so the A-Class isn’t actually that small for the Japanese. If sales in other regions are any indication, the A-Class will also be a hit in Japan, and we look forward to… Continue Reading »

Mercedes Ramps Up A-Class Production

In what must be more than welcome news for Mercedes and its parent Daimler, sales for the compact A-Class are exceeding expectations, to the point that its Rastatt plant will be running three shifts to cover demand. Indications for very strong demand were already evident since the launch of the A-Class in June, when more than 70,000 units were ordered following the market release. With the demand, the Rastatt plant has employed an additional 500 workers on a permanent basis. Already, the Rastatt complex employs 6,500 people where, apart from the A-Class, the B-Class is also being produced. Mercedes’s upcoming compact SUV is also slated to be built there. In… Continue Reading »

BRABUS Works its Magic on the New Mercedes-Benz A-Class

It didn’t take long for BRABUS to come up with a souped-up version of the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class. Just in time for the compact vehicle’s launch, the Mercedes tuner also launched its own tuning program that features enhancements to the tuning of the engine, modifications for aerodynamics, and also some styling add-ons for those looking for sporty performance in an elegant package. Engine tuning is of course the main dish, and BRABUS is finalizing its effort to get all the engines of the new A-Class into its Tuning Program. The tuning program is backed by a 3-year tuning warranty or up to 100,000 km or 62,000 miles. For some aero… Continue Reading »

Mercedes A-Class Posts New Lows

Let’s forget about the 330 horsepower, all-wheel drive AMG A-Class for now. At the other end of the spectrum is an A-Class variant that is aiming for new lows in Mercedes ownership. Meaning of course low emissions, low fuel consumption and low operating cost. For consumers who want the class and dependability that ownership of a Mercedes implies, the Euro 6-compliant A 180 CDI boasts of a low 98 gram output of carbon dioxide per kilometer. In the process, it also consumes up to 26 percent less fuel than its gasoline-driven counterparts. Gratifyingly for the automaker, these numbers are the result of a comprehensive ecological life-cycle assessment of the A… Continue Reading »

A-Class TV Spot Showcase

Performance, Pulse, Parking—those are the three TV spots for the new Mercedes-Benz A-Class, each highlighting a different aspect of the vehicle. The “Performance” spot, easily our favorite here at BenzInsider, highlights the COLLISION PREVENTION ASSIST feature of the vehicle. It stars Nico Rosberg of the Mercedes F1 team, as he takes the A-Class for a ride while dodging and avoiding obstacles thrown at him by a guy that resembles a crash test dummy. As for the “Parking” spot, we see a woman driving the A-Class and coming to a sudden stop to park, then she sprays an outline around the vehicle. This clip highlights the 10 sensors mounted on the… Continue Reading »
