Bottas cruises to Abu Dhabi GP win to close 2017 F1 season; Hamilton finishes 2nd

Valtteri Bottas had an anticlimactic win in an anticlimactic race, cruising comfortably from pole position to take the victory at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to close out the 2017 F1 season. The Finn had no problems closing this one out. Bottas finished 3.899 seconds ahead of teammate and champion Lewis Hamilton, who finished in second place. It was only the fourth 1-2 finish for Mercedes this season. t was also a much-needed victory for Bottas. He went through a relatively bad second half of the season that saw him post two retirements. Bahrain GP: Hamilton, Bottas finish in podium but Vettel secures win

The 2017 Bahrain GP was surely fruitful for Mercedes. The team did, after all, see Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas finish in second and third place, respectively. However, it’s disappointing for the team to see Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari take home the race victory. Bottas started from pole and managed to hold off Vettel at the start, but eventually finished 20 seconds out of the top spot. Hamilton made a play for it late in the game but could not catch Vettel, who took the victory 6.6 seconds ahead of Hamilton to take the lead in the drivers’ standings. This was a very tactical race, and Vettel made the correct calls…. Continue Reading »

Keke Rosberg, Mika Hakkinen, Kimi Raikkonen, and Heiki Kovalainen. That is certainly some good company. When Bottas jumped Hamilton for the Q3 lead, Hamilton subsequently could not improve upon his own time after losing some time in the first sector of the track. He has to settle for P2, but he… Continue Reading »
