Hamilton 5th in Australian GP; Rosberg Fails to Finish

Lewis Hamilton managed to finish fifth at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix, proving that Mercedes AMG Petronas can be a force in this year’s Formula One competition. However, teammate Nico Rosberg became the third retirement for the day after electrical problems forced him off with 32 laps still remaining in the race. Kimi Raikkonen was in good form to start the 2013 season, winning the race a good 12-plus seconds ahead of second-placer Fernando Alonso. Defending champion Sebastian Vettel joined them on the podium, and Alonso’s teammate Felipe Massa finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton. F1: Australian GP Qualifying Postponed Due to Rain; Rosberg Paces Q1

The 2013 Rolex Australian Grand Prix is off to a rainy start, with Q2 and Q3 postponed for the morning of Sunday because of heavy rain in Melbourne’s Albert Park circuit. The race is still scheduled to start at 5 pm Australian time on Sunday. Lewis Hamilton was actually pacing the field sometime during Q1, but the Mercedes AMG Petronas newcomer had to settle for P10 and a shot at a better grid position for Q2. F1: Rain Strikes During Free Practice in Melbourne

There’s less than half an hour to go before the first qualifying session in the 2013 Formula One season. With the third practice earlier hit by some rain, there’s still practically no easy way to predict just who will come out on top at the season-opening Australian Grand Prix.
