Schumacher Finishes 7th in Belgian GP

Competing in his 300th Grand Prix, Michael Schumacher was able to make something out of a bleak situation at the Belgian Grand Prix, steering his F1 W03 to a respectable 7th place finish despite starting at P13 on the grid. This was after a collision off the start of the race that resulted in the retirements of some of the frontrunners. The collision took out the cars from P4 through P8 on the grid: Sergio Perez, Fernando Alonso, Pastor Maldonado, Lewis Hamilton, and Romain Grosjean. Maldonado was actually able to last 3 laps before succumbing to collision damage. Jenson Button was able to steer clear of the collision and managed… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg 6th, Schumacher 12th as Vettel Takes Pole in Valencia Qualifying

At the end of such a closely fought qualifying session for the European Grand Prix, the dust settled and found Nico Rosberg at sixth. There was, however, a tighter contest for the pole position, which Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel finally claimed from McLaren Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. “We had a lot of potential going into qualifying, but unfortunately I can’t be happy with the outcome today,” said Rosberg. “We were quick throughout but when I was just about to start my final lap, Lewis was slowing down in the last corner. I had to start my quick lap behind him which made it impossible to improve my time.” In a rather… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg Settles for 6th as Hamilton takes Canadian GP

The Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team and driver Nico Rosberg had to settle for a “decent” performance at the Canadian Grand Prix, with the German driver getting a sixth-place finish in a race that saw the seventh different winner in the first seven races of the 2012 F1 season—McLaren-Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton. Mercedes teammate Michael Schumacher, who was hoping for a better result in this race which he has won 7 times, started at ninth on the grid but had to retire after 43 laps because of hydraulic problems that ended up with his car’s DRS getting stuck. “Sixth place is a decent result today and it’s important for both me… Continue Reading »

Monaco GP: Schumacher Tops Qualifying, Will Start at P6

With the 5-place penalty he was handed for an incident at the previous race, we said Michael Schumacher had to have a good showing at the qualifying for the Monaco Grand Prix, right? Well, the 7-time Formula One champion exceeded everyone’s expectations by finishing at the top of the pack with 1:14:301 in Q3, pushing his Mercedes AMG Petronas MGP W03 hard to outpace everyone else. Schumi will start at P6 on the grid tomorrow after the penalty is applied. Mark Webber of Red Bull Racing finished second in qualifying and will subsequently hold pole position at the race. Schumi’s Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg is at P2, followed by McLaren… Continue Reading »

Schumacher Gets 5-Place Penalty for Barcelona Crash

If you watched the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix last weekend, chances are you saw a disappointing end to Michael Schumacher’s race when his MGP W03 collided with the back of Bruno Senna’s Williams. Now, the verdict is out, and the race stewards have given Schumi the unpleasant reward of a 5-place grid penalty at the Monaco Grand Prix in two weeks. This penalty was given once the stewards reviewed the footage of the collision on lap 12 of the race and deemed it was caused by the German seven-time F1 champion for Mercedes AMG Petronas. Schumacher had claimed that it was Senna’s fault, but Senna countered and obviously the stewards… Continue Reading »

Rosberg Seventh, Schumacher DNF in Barcelona

Despite some strong practices and a very solid qualifying session, Mercedes AMG Petronas could not capitalize on its momentum heading towards Sunday’s race as Nico Rosberg managed to salvage a seventh-place finish while Michael Schumacher had to retire in lap 13 in the 2012 Spanish Grand Prix. Williams’ Pastor Maldonado emerged victorious from pole position in a race that saw everyone bumped up one spot after erstwhile pole position holder Lewis Hamilton was penalized for having insufficient fuel after qualifying and the McLaren-Mercedes driver ended up starting at the last spot on the grid. Starting from P6, Rosberg had a solid hold on fifth place late in the race but… Continue Reading »

Schumacher, Rosberg with Strong Showing in Friday Practice

It’s been a long wait for the resumption of Formula One action, but this weekend will bring a lot of excitement when the European leg of the 2012 season starts at Barcelona. Mercedes AMG Petronas delivered a strong showing in Friday practice, with both Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg building some momentum from the team’s testing at Mugello and then getting excellent results at the Circuit de Catalunya. Schumacher was great in Practice 1, notching sixth place at 1:25:187, while Rosberg was a mere 14th with 1:25:607. Rosberg was much better in the second practice session, finishing third with 1:23:771, just behind Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel. Schumi’s 1:24:080 was… Continue Reading »
