Want to come face to face with a Mercedes-Benz 280SE 3.5L Cabrio (yep, it’s a long name for an old car!)? Then be at the upcoming auction event to be held by Historics at Brooklands. This car is just one of only 55 ever built, is right hand drive and should command around GBP 70,000 to 90,000 if the bidding’s good. Historics Brooklands says that this forecasted value is around ten times its original price tag, which was GBP 7,249.
It was around the same time that a certain singer-songwriter named Janis Joplin coined the famous phrase ‘Oh Lord, won’t you buy me a Mercedes-Benz’, this oldie was being built—the finishing touches, actually—and now it’s going to be the auction’s center piece. Joplin’s lyrics has been immortalized by the Mercedes-Benz brand, especially by this unique limited edition vintage classic.
In case you’re wondering, the Cabrio had twin headlights that were highlighted by chrome bezels. Its iconic oversized grille, now evidently influencing current Mercedes-Benz models, jives perfectly with its wide bow. You can differentiate this model from its straight-six sibling by the height at which it rides from the ground—one inch closer—owing to the heavier and more stout V8.
This baby has just 21,981 miles on its tripmeter, and has been kept in mint condition ever since—GBP 12,000 spent on paint and another GBP 5,000 on interior restoration.
We know you want it. So be sure to be there when the bidding starts.

The London Borough of Southwark has got a brand new fleet of environmentally-friendly vehicles to help clean the streets and lessen air pollution. They’re none other than Mercedes-Benz’s Sprinter van, chosen by the Southwark Council after a salvo of tests to confirm its environmental prowess.
Around 47 Sprinters have been ordered, and an engine that’s compliant with Euro 5 emission standards and the Enhanced Environmentally-friendly Vehicle, or EEV, standards powers each one of them. Mercedes-Benz took it upon themselves to design their vans’ engines to be EEV-certified to have a cutting-edge advantage of competing manufacturers.
The Sprinters are also equipped with Mercedes-Benz’s ECO-Start technology, a system that improves fuel economy and lessens exhaust emissions by automatically shutting down the engine whenever the van is not moving. This prevents fuel from being wasted during idle times such as when waiting in heavy traffic or a drive-through fast food joint. By shifting into neutral and releasing the clutch, the system shuts the engine down two seconds later. They system restarts the engine as soon as you depress the clutch pedal.
According to Southwark Council Business Unit Manager Matthew Trott, one of the main reasons why they chose Mercedes-Benz Sprinters was because of their engine’s compliance with both Euro 5 and EEV standards.

The Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival is happening in Brisbane, and it’s about to generate around $5 million worth of retail boost, surpassing the previous year’s $4 million. That’s according to MBFF Director Lindsay Bennet. This can be seen from visitors buying clothes to wear in the Festival itself as well the outfits that they see being ramped up on stage.
Bennet says the one store, Scanlan & Theodore, actually sold out their stock of shoes on Saturday evening, while Camargue was able to sell their whole collection in just two days in the previous year. It’s very, very clear that the Festival drives an increase in spending and buying amongst both locals and visitors.
The purpose-built marquee at South Bank’s Cultural Forecourt was filled to capacity on Saturday night, and presently there are very few remaining tickets that are available for the rest of the week’s shows. Recent highlights of the Festival include an exciting show of local designers’ brand new season swimwear collections which include White Sands, Rebecca Manning Swim and Riot. Also up on stage is last year’s Fashion competition champion Blanc + Delta, strutting alongside designers and boutiques from Brisbane and interstate brands that include Lady Petrova.
If you sum it all up, there are around 38 designers from Brisbane, 24 from the rest of Australian continent and 24 from other countries participating in this year’s event. So if you’re living in the Land Down Under, make sure to bring yourself and your purse to the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Festival in Brisbane.

The DTM team of Mercedes-Benz swept the entire Nurburgring clean from lights to checkered flag, pushing aside their Audi opponents Mattias Ekstrom and Martin Tomczyk. It was Canadian Bruno Spengler who took home the top honor, garnering 10 points for his effort for the second time this season. Meanwhile, it was Britains Paul Di Resta and Gary Parfett who clinched 2nd and 3rd place to earn Mercedes-Benz a one-two-three podium victory pleasing around 86,000 DTM fans.
Spengler now leads the tournament comfortably by a span of 16 points. He says he focused right from the start to secure the lead, and was very, very happy that his teammates were able to keep up. Audi’s Ekstrom wasn’t able to give a good fight despite having started on a good pole position. He eventually fell behind to 7th place early in the start of the race. He admitted having started poorly as well, failing to downshift in the first turn. His wheels locked and he paid the price severely. His teammate Tomczyk, meanwhile, was only able to clinch 11th place.
David Coulthard, on the other hand, was able to maintain tenth position from lights to flag. His three teammates now lead the points standings and they are all getting set for the next race in Zandvoort, Netherlands, come August 20 to 24.

The parent company of Mercedes-Benz, Daimler AG, is proud to announce that it’s breadwinner is doing extremely well on US soil. Just this July, sales of both Mercedes-Benz and Smart vehicles have risen around 5.5 percent as compared to last year. Figuratively speaking, Mercedes-Benz USA provided data such as their total sales since the beginning of this year rising up to 23.4 percent. For July alone, there was an increase of up to 11.2% since last year. Around 17,367 passenger cars, light trucks and 681 Sprinter vans have already been sold since January 2010.
One of the strongest performers for Mercedes-Benz in the US is the 9th generation E-Class. After only being introduced in spring last year, it has been able to sell up to 5,462 units. Mercedes-Benz’s entry-level premium vehicle range, the C-Class however, comes in second with around 5,309 units sold for July alone. The M-Class isn’t to be left out though, scoring 1,973 units sold for July alone.
The R-Class crossover remains to be the highest climber—772.2% since last year—while the GL-Class SUV made around 39.7% in sales increase. Mercedes-Benz’s flagship model range, the S-Class, was able to gain a 22.1% increase while the SLS AMG supercar became equally as successful, selling up to 265 since the start of this year.

You just can’t get enough of spy photos, can you? Well, here’s more, but it ain’t Mercedes-Benz. Well, technically, Pagani super cars use Mercedes-Benz engines, so that in essence makes them close kin, and earns them the right to be in Benz Insider.
So here’s the latest bit of Pagani news. Have you ever seen a Pagani Zonda super car parked on the street with its doors swung so arrogantly wide? Well, you better relish that moment, because soon you’ll see something different. Something so wild that you’ll get the feeling you’re looking at a far relative of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG—on the Zonda’s replacement, that is.
This spy photo of the new Pagani C9 hypercar shows what people have been dying (if not hoping against) to see—gullwing doors. Yes, it’s so crazy you’ll instantly be drawn towards it, like a magnet attracting bits of iron. Who would’ve thought that Pagani would go on a path that so reminds people of the SLS AMG. Perhaps an exchange deal of some sort for using Mercedes-Benz’s engine technology? Who knows for sure?
Perhaps the designers down at Pagani were highly pressured to deliver something so radical that it instantly catches the mind of people. Or maybe it’s just because this super car manufacturer has close ties with both F1 legend Juan Manuel Fangio and Mercedes-Benz.
As for power, you’ll get no less than pure muscle from its Mercedes-Benz sourced V12 power plant. That’s a good indication right there that this partnership is going the right way.

One way for your company to stay competitive is to keep rolling out new products and services. For Mercedes-Benz, that means putting new models on the plate for your loyal, hungry customers. And so, here’s what’s in store for all you Mercedes-Benz aficionados and it’s all coming by the year 2014—20 new models, all in all. With most countries now getting into grips with economic crisis, it seems the only avenue for increasing sales—for Mercedes-Benz, at least—is to offer more choices.
First off is a facelifted C-Class. This model is going to be released ahead of the pack, with an expected appearance coming as early as 2011. It won’t be alone, though. It’s going to be accompanied by a coupe version whose mission is to destroy the BMW 3 Series. There’s also a new M-Class and a new SLK that’ll be making their debut come next year.
2012 will really be a blast beginning with the production of the SLS AMG E-Cell. It’s going to go head to head with Audi’s electric-car version of the R8, dubbed the E-Tron. Following the E-Cell’s grand entrance is the new SL-Class Coupe, the CLS, and the rest of the pack consisting of the A and B Classes. 2013, meanwhile, will see production of the new GLK, while in 2014, it’s going to be the CL’s turn to shine.
There’s a lot in store so stay tuned, folks.
