Spy Photo: Partly Camouflaged 2012 Mercedes SLK

spyshots 2012 mercedes slk 597x398 Spy Photo: Partly Camouflaged 2012 Mercedes SLK

After some spy photos showing the 2012 Mercedes SLK being tested while wrapped in heavy camouflage, photographers have succeeded to take a much revealing photo of the German coupe-convertible.

Based on the photo, the automobile showed some improvements and modifications in its body, even though the enhancements that really matter, which includes the more aggressive front nose is still hidden in thin layer of camouflage.

On the next generation SLK, the side mirrors will also be modified, as they are now much larger and adjusted further back than the present version. It is also situated on the doors and not in the front front of the side window.

Nonetheless, those who were aspiring for a design transformation with the latest SLK may be disappointed, as the SLK continues to carry the design cues that is familiar to its model.

With regards to the engine, it is anticipated that the SLK will feature four and six-cylinder petrol engines, with an average of 180 hp, and a much stronger AMG version of one of them is also to be also presented.

The AMG SLK will also be fitted with a smaller, twin-turbocharged engine (possibly a V6), rather than the present 5.4l V8. Though it is much smaller, the engine will be at about the same levels as in the present SLK AMG Black Series, with at least 400HP.

Helvetic Motor Company’s Hidalgo a modern blast from the past

01 hmc 597x447 Helvetic Motor Companys Hidalgo a modern blast from the past
Not all bad ideas turn out to as planned, do they? That is exactly the case with Helvetic Motor Company’s plans to take a perfectly running Merecedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG and turn it into something hideously old. Unfortunately for them, the final product turned out sharper than everyone expected, and the company has no one else to blame, err, credit for its success.

Dubbed the ‘Hidalgo’, it’s a mixture of Bugatti Atlantic design language that rolls on a Silver Arrow’s powertrain. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Well, it should, especially with the 5.5-liter V8 that’s sitting under the hood. This baby is capable of 355hp and 376lb-ft. If you’re thinking of buying a BMW-powered Morgan, you better think twice.

So, is the Bruce Wayne in you starting to itch for a new toy? Then better start making some calls as Helvetic Motor Company is planning to sell as few as 6 samples annually. The price tag on each fully-built Hidalgo stretches around $410,000. A bit too much? Well, you’re not going to be a worthwhile collector if you can’t spend a little money on a classic. All right, it’s not a classic. It’s only a modern car that’s been dressed up to look like a classic. Would it have fooled you? Probably not.

Spy Photo: 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK AMG

2011 mercedes benz slk amg spy photos 04 4c3e938490eac 625x370 597x353 Spy Photo: 2011 Mercedes Benz SLK AMG Latest pictures of the soon-to-be released next generation Mercedes-Benz SLK were recently acquired thus showing that the development of the updated AMG variant is on-going even while the current model is still at its peak. The pictures were acquired by spy photographers while the updated SLK was being tested right beside its predecessor. Photographers note that the distinctive sound of a V8 engine, more specifically AMG’s latest 5.5 litre V8, could be heard during the testing which means that this updated version of the SLK AMG might offer more than 335kW when it launches in 2011. That’s an increase of roughly 70kW over the regular model.

Among the features of the spied test car were quad-tip tailpipes, a more noteworthy frontal bumper with larger intakes and more distinct bodywork underneath its heavy camouflage. These features add credibility to this new model’s likely AMG identity. As is the identifying mark of the other models in the AMG range, this 2011 model also has large forged alloy wheels preceding bigger and more powerful brakes. The SLK AMG’s interior would probably echo the look of its supercar relative, the SLS AMG, by taking on masses of leather, aluminum highlights and other classic design fundamentals. The updated SLK is anticipated to debut in the early part of 2011, while the AMG model will follow suit a few months after.

Dannie and Kylie’s SLK230 for bidding at Bonhams

blog230909 dannii 597x398 Dannie and Kylies SLK230 for bidding at Bonhams

Anyone here fans of Kylie Minogue? Yes, the hot Australian artist who appeared on Street Fighter The Movie? Yes, that film was a flop, but you gotta’ give credit to Kylie. She looked hot in her military outfit—of sorts—and kept audiences glued to the film co-starring Jean Claude Van Damme. Well, there’s actually news that the singer is going to auction off a car her sister—Dannii Minogue—passed onto her, all for charity. Yes, she’s that generous. The car is a black SLK230 and it’s going to be put under the hammer at the Bonhams Auction House during the Goodwood Festival of Speed Sale this July 2.

Now, hold your horses, guys. You’ve got to have at least 8,000-12,000 euros in your pockets, AND you must have experience in taking care of a Mercedes-Benz. This baby has had only 19,000 miles under its belt—mostly driving around town in pure glamour—and is still in its prime, mint condition.

Now, you all know that Kylie is as hot as she was when she started her career. Critics even refer to her as the most powerful artist in Britain. She’s all set to release her 11th album entitled Aphrodite—oh yes, that is SO appropriate—this July. Her sister Dannii, on the other hand, is famous herself for appearing as a judge on huge shows such as The X Factor—alongside feisty, totally ruthless co-judge Simon Cowell, of American Idol—and Australia’s Got Talent. Having been caressed by these two stars, the car is sure to draw crowds from all over the world—not just Britain—says Bonhams Motoring Department Head James Knight.

Can’t get Kylie out of your head? Then take a shot at her SLK230.

Spy Photos: 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK

2011 mercedes benz slk spy shots 19 4c16d44c408c0 1280x1024 597x398 Spy Photos: 2011 Mercedes Benz SLKMercedes-Benz has updated their SLK model as the spy photos show while it is being road tested alongside it precursor somewhere in Germany this week. The new model was spotted showing more of its newly designed front end and seems to be wearing lesser camouflage than other past spied development vehicles. The spy photos of the new SLK and the present-generation SLK shows the best look yet at the significant changes made on the newer model. Based on the review, the 2011 SLK is basically the same as the current model but features a new grille that resembles the SLS AMG’s frontal pattern, while the headlights, bonnet and front bumper’s designs are new.

The side mirrors of this new model seems to stick out further from the car’s body and are on more slender stalks in contrast to the present model. Also noticeable is the LED daytime running lights shown behind the camouflage wrap of the front bumper. According to the reports, the 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK would be powered by the company’s 2.2 litre BlueEfficiency four-cylinder twin-turbo diesel, with a maximum of 152kW and 500Hm of torque. There would also be a probable release of petrol engines with reports of a 3.5 litre twin-turbo V6 for the AMG model of the new SLK that has an estimated torque of  200 to 260kW.

Detailing the next SLK

2011 mercedes benz slk preview 100231924 l 597x369 Detailing the next SLK

What’s new with the next Mercedes-Benz SLK? Let’s look at the spy photos, shall we? Well, there’s the new three-fold roof that’ll be able to fold less than 22 seconds (which is the current model’s retraction time). And then there’s the redesigned ducktail spoiler that resembles that of the SLS AMG. Plus, there’s the tail lights that look as though they’re going to be slimmer and longer, stretching past the trunk lid and the ducktail.

What else? Oh, right. The body of the next SLK will be of a tubular fuselage design, again taking heavy cues from the SLS AMG. There’s also a lot of running on the sides to make the new SLK appear a lot more interesting when viewed from its laterals. And the headlights – a work of art. It’s like staring into a pair of sleek eyes that have running LED lights for eyebrows. Cool.

The new headlights are longer and a lot sexier than ever before, which brings us to the new front grille that’s a lot like those on the SLS AMG, the Shooting Break and the F 800 Style Concept. It’ll have those wing-like horizontal bars to flank the three-pointed star in the middle.

Finally, if you look inside, you’ll notice that the center console is a lot wider, and has these propeller-like air vents. The dash top is again similar to the SLS AMG and is rumored to be carried over to future Mercedes-Benz models.

There you have it, folks. Watch our for its release come June in 2011.

New 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK Illustration

2012 mercedes slk illustration New 2012 Mercedes Benz SLK Illustration
When Mercedes presented its Mercedes SLK in 1996, it came to be a very popular model of the company.  Mercedes then did some major changes with its body and also upped its performance, which brought out the second generation last 2004. Its second generation SLK was known to be one of the Car and Driver’s Ten Best and also gained the title of Canadian Car of the Year’s Best New Convertible Award.  Again, Mercedes has come to a point where they need to decide whether to re-design the SLK and make it famous once again.  According to the reports, Mercedes management once again is making impressive changes to the said model.

The new SLS AMG will become a model for the next generation Mercedes SLK.  Based on the reports, Mercedes has removed its F1 nose, designed a new rectangular grille, added a large chrome bar and an optional glass roof that would make its new owners very satisfied. The SLK model will also add a diesel engine in its line and by 2012, it plans to release a four cylinder 2.1 twin-turbo engine that gives out up to 204 HP.  The new SLK 250 CDI is said to compete with its rivals, Audi TT Roadster TDI and the Alfa Romeo Spider.  The new SLK 350 CGI will be powered by a new 306 HP V6 engine that targets to compete with the BMW Z4.  According to the reports, the latest SLK is said to be publicly unveiled by the end of this year and will be ready for sales in the early 2011.

2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK to get a new look plus new engines

2011 mercedes benz slk spy shots 12 4be0eeadef52b 615x350 597x398 2011 Mercedes Benz SLK to get a new look plus new engines

The 2011 Mercedes-Benz SLK is set for a transformation. Apart from earlier reports of its getting a generous helping of carbon fiber panels to lighten its already lean curb weight, the up and coming SLK will also be getting a fresh makeover to distinguish it from the old.

The next SLK will have a thoroughly redesigned front end that’ll flaunt an entirely new grille that’s quite similar to the SLS AMG. Also getting a revamp are the headlights, hood and front bumper. Coupled with even longer and sleeker side mirrors, these new designs will improve the new SLK’s aerodynamics and make it a lot more visually astounding.

Power, of course, will have a premium as well. An engine option will see power coming from a four pot 2.2-liter BlueEfficiency twin-turbo diesel, as well as a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V6 petrol that is very likely to peak at around 220 to 260 kW. This option is probably going to be housed in the SLK’s AMG version. No word yet on whether it’ll keep a supercharged Kompressor-variant.

So stay tuned folks. The new SLK is going to change how you view a short, lightweight sports convertible. That’s what ‘SLK’ means, by the way.

New engine option for the 2010 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class in Australia

mercedes benz slk 2008 141 597x447 New engine option for the 2010 Mercedes Benz SLK Class in Australia
Are you looking to invest in a car that’s sporty, lightweight and short? Why not include a retractable hardtop into your list of wants? Put all of those qualities together and you get the perfect definition of the Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class. Wearing smooth lines on its short and stout body, and powered by a powerful engine, the SLK will make short work of any public road or highway with its three-star badge to boot.

The current 2011 SLK-Class lineup offers up to four engine options, the latest of which is a 3.0-liter V6 engine that’s rated at 170kW and 300Nm of torque. This option fetches a price of $98,000. Your other choices are a 135kW 1.8-liter supercharged four-banger on the Kompressor version ($90,100), a 3.5-liter V6 that’s rated at 224kW and 360Nm of torque ($118,000), and a 265kW/510Nm 5.5-liter V8 on the AMG version ($175,000).

Of course, these are just manufacturer’s listed prices only. Expect a little bit of overhead charge to be added for shipping services and on-road costs.

Despite the price tag, however, it’s hard not to fall for the SLK. You better else you want your Australian dealers to run out of units. It’ll be quite some time before brand new units get delivered into the country, mate.

Mercedes Benz SLK in Stealth Mode Shows a Longer, Sleeker Hood

2012 mercedes benz slk spy shots 100308280 m 540x344 Mercedes Benz SLK in Stealth Mode Shows a Longer, Sleeker Hood
Since its debut in 2004, the SLK roadster design–according to its fans–has grown old and, some would say, in need of a revamp. There are some evidence though that the SLK roadster is indeed going through a sportier redesign and has been sighted on Germany’s roads during its stealth testing wearing a fresh, natty attitude. Those in the know say that the new SLK with its spanking new look will debut early next year, with a trimmer body (it has shed about 200 pounds of weight) and a more spacious trunk space (11.2 cu. ft.).

Despite the redesign, the SLK roadster will continue to model Mercedes Benz’s standard LED daytime lights but the side-mirrors will have slimmer mounts. The seating position is more oriented towards the back of the car and the front hood will have longer lines when the top’s up.

Mercedes Benz insiders say that months after its initial release, the SLK roadster will also be tuned up to 300-350HP with a 3.0 liters, twin-turbo V6 engine. The engine for the SLK’s AMG version may also be pushed up to a twin turbo, 5.5-liter V8 status, able to deliver over 470HP of muscle power. Needless to say, the old 6.2 liters V8 standard will be scrapped with that improvement.

For its international editions, the SLK may get a 2.2 liter, 4-cylinder diesel engine usually found in today’s C250 CDI. This diesel incarnation, some say, will have a C-Class application and a 369Nm torque, 204HP engine power. Although it would still be sporty, there’s doubt if SLK’s American followers will find it to their liking. (Mercedes Benz is considering bringing its diesel vehicles to the US though not with the SLK but the GLK and C-Class models.)

SLK watchers say that although its latest look is reminiscent of the SLS AMG, particularly in the angle between the back end of the hard top and the rear deck, the more substantial part of the redesign will focus mainly on the front.
