Lewis Hamilton to race against this year’s Summer Driving Challenge survivors

lewis hamilton wallpaper 587x470 Lewis Hamilton to race against this years Summer Driving Challenge survivors
Wondering what to do for your next summer vacation? How about being part of Mercedes-Benz’s biggest summer holiday programme yet? To be held in its brand experience center around Weybridge, Surrey, the event offers several attractions that are sure to win the hearts of Mercedes-Benz fans everywhere.

To begin with, the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy will be setting up guests to drive along with 2008 Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton. It’s not going to be a leisurely drive though, as Lewis is unlikely to take things easily behind the wheel. If you win, though, no doubt you will be immortalized as the guest who beat Lewis Hamilton to the checkered flag. That’ll be the event’s highlight. A series of challenges will see who gets to team up against Lewis in the finale.

Off road lovers, meanwhile, will be able to take the M-Class for a spin outdoors—all 10 acres of it—alongside a professional driver manning the secondary controls to the SUV. This attraction is appropriately called the Kids 4×4 Driving Experience, probably to bring out the outdoor-loving kid in you.

Dubbed the ‘Summer Challenge’, it will all boil down to a hundred top scorers who’ll be returning on September 4 in teams to compete in the Grand Finale with Lewis. So suit up and get your family in high gear. It’s going to be one big summer party with Mercedes-Benz.

A Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren can’t save you from danger

slr mclaren mercedes crash
An unidentified Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren car owner in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, was speeding through a corner and suddenly lost control going head to head with the pavement. As you can see on the picture above it is not a pretty sight.

Apparently, that man wanted to dance with the devil and the devil, not so politely, rejected the invitation by slamming him to a stop. Miraculously, the man was unharmed during this debacle.

Hope this serves a lesson to all of us. Most especially the reckless drivers, who doesn’t know the meaning of the phrase “Slow Down”. Speeding is one of the biggest factors that contributes to car accidents and probably the most tempting thing to do while driving a supercar. It is a thrill to drive a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren but please…. drive carefully. This is not only to protect your prestigious car but your valuable life as well.

Nico Rosberg takes 3rd in Chinese Grand Prix

22550846 53591016420101 635x360 540x306 Nico Rosberg takes 3rd in Chinese Grand Prix

It was yet another disappointment for Michael Schumacher as he manages to finish tenth in the Chinese Grand Prix. His wingman, Nico Rosberg, kept his fight going to end up third on the podium. It was McLaren’s duo, Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton, who took 1-2 positions, with Button becoming the first driver to win a second time.

The race in Shanghai was brutal for both drivers and crews as they struggled to find the right balance between slicks and intermediates. The unpredictable rain forced teams to reschedule their pit stops in order to change between dry and wet-weather setups.

In the end, Schumacher was hit the worst by the weather as he failed to manage his intermediates on the wet track. His tyres were worn out almost immediately, forcing him to retire any attempt to challenge those in front.

Schumi had a very rough time with the intermediates, which limited his ability to push his car to the limit. He adds that this whole intermediate-tyre thing is new to him, very unlike what he’s used to in the past. His last Formula One victory, ironically, was in Shanghai back in 2006, landing sad emotions on the seven-time world champion.

McLaren initiated split from Mercedes

ron dennis stepping down as mclaren mercedes f1 team boss 540x360 McLaren initiated split from Mercedes
McLaren Racing Limited, the second oldest and one of the most successful teams in Formula One, together with boss Ron Dennis has revealed that his team initiated the split from Mercedes-Benz, and not the car maker.

The team will still be running Mercedes engines until the end of the 2011 season, after that we don’t know what the future is in store for them. Mercedes-Benz bought a 40 per cent share in McLaren in 2006 and Dennis says the company made its interest in taking over the F1 team clear on many occasions.

Dennis said that “They continuously over the years wanted to have control of McLaren and we continuously told them we did not want them to have control of McLaren,” “The more they wanted it, the less we wanted to give it to them. Because you look at what happens… the influence they [car manufacturers] control is not always productive. CEOs change overnight.

“I have got 30-odd years of my life in this company, huge quantities of friends and people who have been through thick and thin with me, and I made it very clear to Mercedes-Benz, as did the other shareholders, that we are not for sale. They hankered always.”

“We initiated it, we wanted to be independent,” said Dennis. “This wasn’t something which we weren’t party to. I mean engine supply to Brawn in 2008 [for the 2009 season] required our consent.

“At the end of the day we were a fully integrated partner of Mercedes-Benz, and we still are. We are fiercely competitive on circuit, but off circuit we are still firm friends.”

Both parties could have changed their plans in the period after 2006, but Dennis really should have made it clear to Merc when he sold the 40% that he was not willing to sell a controlling stake.

Video: Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Speedster Spied Again

The Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Speedster was caught testing once again at the Nuerburgring in Germany, this time by Auto-Motor-und-Sport. We’ve seen the speedster before in another spy video, but the current video not only shows us the car sprinting around the track, but lets us actually hear hear the roar of the monster under the hood. It’s rumored that the top speed is at around 218mph and will be able to go from 0-300km/h (180mph) in 26 seconds. Enjoy.

Formula 1 Grand Prix in Istanbul

Fernando Alonso Mclaren Mercedes F1
This was another great F1 race on Sunday, unfortunately not a good outcome for the silver arrows, finishing on third and fifth place. The Scuderia team took places one and two right at the beginning and never really looked back at the trailing Hamilton, which ended up on fifth place after an incident with his tire, but fortunately Alonso was able to capture that last podium place with a bit of skill and a lot of luck.

The start: For the fifth time this year, Lewis and Fernando had qualified second and fourth respectively. At the start, Lewis dropped to third behind the Ferraris of Felipe Massa and Kimi Rà¤ikkà¶nen whilst Fernando was sixth at the end of the opening lap.

The race: Fernando got stuck behind Nick Heidfeld (BMW Sauber). When Heidfeld’s team mate Robert Kubica pitted on lap 12 Fernando improved to fifth. On lap 17, also Heidfeld came in and Fernando was fourth.

Fernando made his first routine stop on lap 18 (9.1sec) together with Rà¤ikkà¶nen, whilst Massa came in on lap 19 and Lewis on lap 20 (9.4sec). After that, Massa went back into the lead ahead of Rà¤ikkà¶nen and Lewis; Fernando passed both BMW Saubers during his pitstop and was fourth.

Prodrive F1 Team Will Use Mercedes Engines in 2008

MP4-22

In Red Bull-Toro Rosso style, McLaren and F1’s twelfth team Prodrive next year could use essentially the same Formula One chassis.
Although news about David Richards’ incoming team has been sparing in recent times, it is reported this week that Prodrive is still on track to debut in Melbourne next March.
Specialist German magazine Auto Motor und Sport claims that with three substantial Prodrive sponsors now on board, McLaren is now working closely with Richards’ outfit to put together effectively a ‘B’ Mercedes-powered team.
To simplify the cross-over between the two teams, and because of time constraints, Prodrive is likely to run the 2008-specification MP4-23 single seater, probably with an identical Mercedes-Benz V8 power plant to its works sister, as the new privateer-friendly rules will probably allow.
Alongside McLaren test drivers Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett as possible Prodrive racers, meanwhile, is Paffett’s French-Canadian DTM colleague Bruno Spengler, the magazine added.

F1: Hamilton Will Race After Crash

Hamilton at the press conference

LEWIS Hamilton will drive in today’s European Grand Prix in Germany.
The 22-year-old Tewin talent has been given the all clear by doctors to race after his 150mph (241km/h) crash at the Nürburgring yesterday afternoon during the final session of qualifying.
In a statement released this morning, McLaren confirmed that the world championship leader from Herts would get behind the wheel.
It said: “Vodafone McLaren Mercedes are pleased to confirm that Lewis Hamilton has been cleared to race in today’s European Grand Prix by the FIA medical delegate Dr Gary Hartstein and the chief medical officer of the event, Dr Klaus U Zerbian. “The entire team looks forward to enjoying a competitive race this afternoon for both Fernando (Alonso) and Lewis.”
The front right tyre on Hamilton’s McLaren burst as he exited turn eight yesterday and he careered off the track at high speed with just five minutes of the qualifying session left. Hamilton was on a hot lap at the time and was challenging for pole position. He will now start from 10th on the gird with the same fuel load as he started qualifying with. The qualifying session was red flagged after Hamilton’s accident and continued after half an hour delay.

I believe, he can finish on the podium today.

The real SLR 722 by RENNtech

slr722front.jpg
As we all know now, the SLR 722 will come out this summer with a 650hp strong engine, but has Mercedes really pushed the envelope with this car. The guys from RENNtech don’t believe so and have released a car that should have been made by DCX in the first place.

“For most people, six-fifty is probably enough” says RENNtech’s Hartmut Feyhl “but you see that ‘722′ on the car and you start to want seven-hundred and twenty-two horsepower.”

Such comments might be easily dismissed – but not when they come from Feyhl. No stranger to high-performance, Feyhl followed up his 12 year run at AMG by forming RENNtech – a tuning house generally regarded as the nation’s foremost authority on Mercedes-Benz performance.

The RENNtech crew began with a comprehensive review of the SLR’s stock components, when attention quickly focused on the car’s intercooler. “The stock intercooler wasn’t doing the job,” Feyhl explains, “it needed an upgrade”.

That “upgrade” took the form of a virtual redesign of the SLR’s intercoolers. The stock intercooler pump was replaced with a RENNtech-specific pump with almost double the capacity of outgoing unit. A dedicated radiator was installed, and the new pieces were integrated into the engine bay almost invisibly. As Feyhl points out, “It looks like it’s supposed to be there.”

The new intercooler dropped intake temperatures an average of 10 degrees Celsius across the operating range, and the time it took to get the engine’s temperatures back to “normal” after a dyno run was greatly reduced. “We used to have to wait almost 2 minutes between dyno runs to the get the temperatures back down, even with big fans blowing,” says Feyhl. “Now it takes about 20 seconds.”

The improved cooling meant that RENNtech could shift their attention to the supercharger and pulley – a RENNtech pulley kit, enhanced by RENNtech’s own SLR specific software tuning, increased boost to the SLR’s 5.5 liter V8 and produced an astonishing (albeit coincidental) result: 722hp – which might mean a lot more to McLaren customers than 7:22am.

Mclaren Mercedes F1: Chasing the Dream

This short documentary takes a look at this years Mclaren Mercedes F1 Team, and their dream to take the title after many season without any luck. It is very interesting how two drivers at opposite worlds, in terms of experience, will work together to create a successful team in the coming years. It’s unclear if Hamilton will be able to compete against the other veteran drivers, but as long as he can help Alonso win the races, his job would be complete. If you are Mclaren fan or even an F1 fan, I highlighly recommend that you watch it.
