There are so many perks in being a Formula 1 World Champion, especially if you’re the current champion. And one of those is being granted ownership of exclusive vehicles—even limited edition ones—like the Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG DR 520 Estate.

What’s so special about this wagon? Let’s just say it has around 520 horses under its hood, being able to pull from zero to sixty in just 4.1 seconds. Top speed? Around 187mph, electronically limited of course. And, it’s only available through Mercedes-Benz’s Specialist Products Division. So who’s the lucky Formula 1 World Champion that got this very special Benz delivered to his front yard? Well, none other than the reigning champion Jenson Button, of course.

In case you’re wondering, the DR 520 Estate is derived from a base C63 AMG wagon. AMG decided to take things a little further by adding their very own Performance Pack Plus. The kit includes a red caliper brake upgrades, forged pistons, connecting rod upgrades, redesigned crankshaft, and a carbon fiber AMG rear spoiler, only on the sedan, of course.

The price tag of £62,430 for the sedan and £63,680 for the wagon includes black or white wraps, Titanium alloys, grille and badges. Leather and Alcantara abound in the interior including a Nappa leather-Alcantara steering wheel. So if you’ve got an extra ten grand of pounds to spare, then you might want to get the kit for your own C63.

It’s only available in the UK, people. Unless, of course, you’re Jenson Button.

Schumi Eyeing 2011 Title

schu merc shan thur 2010 344x470 Schumi Eyeing 2011 Title

If you’re betting on Schumi leaving Formula 1 at the end of this season, don’t get your hopes up. The seven-time world champion has just made public his plans of not quitting the sport and aiming for the title in 2011.

Everyone knows the kind of trouble Schumi has been having this season, being consistently outpaced by his wingman, Nico Rosberg. So the question on everyone’s mind is whether he would quit and not finish his three-year contract. Well, apparently, he isn’t.

His motivation for coming out of retirement, according to him, remains the same—to win his eight title. And his confidence has been rattled as much by the predicaments he has been experiencing. In fact, he’s seeing everything that’s going on right now as merely a challenge. He knows his goal, and he’s determined that he can achieve it.

He is, however, being realistic about people’s expectations for him. He has admitted that winning the title this season is ‘impossible’. He recalls having been in retirement for three years, and puts blame on his car for limiting his abilities. Schumi doesn’t want people to think that he’s a magician who can instantly pull a trick. He says it’ll take time to work things through and hopefully win the title again.

Schumi could call it quits

turkeyf1gpautoracingf9c51dd026494440a9f6b8f65155d726 c2c2423627924c5e91868aa252556ba2 597x421 Schumi could call it quits

You’re all well aware of Michael Schumacher’s lackluster performance in his first season since coming out of retirement. Surely, everyone’s wishing he’d be as triumphant as his return to the sport which gave him plenty—seven World Championship titles and countless Drivers’ Championship victories—not to mention the Constructors’ Championships which he helped Ferrari win.

Now, being consistently outpaced by his wingman Nico Rosberg, the question on everyone’s mind is whether Schumi will stay to fulfill his contract up till 2012 with Mercedes GP. Two individuals seem to think Schumi has done quite enough—three-time world champion Jackie Stewart, and FIA top dog himself, Bernie Ecclestone.

Just this past British GP, Schumi was only able to finish ninth while Rosberg took a podium slot. Stewart thinks Schumi should retire now and save what’s left of his legacy. Ecclestone, meanwhile, seems beholden to Schumi saying that it’s his team’s fault for giving him a sub-par car with sub-par performance. Ecclestone adds that if Schumi were driving a Red Bull, things would be so much different.

Schumi himself has admitted defeat for this season, and has shifted his resources towards preparing for next season. If he does retire, the most likely candidate to fill his seat is The Iceman himself, Kimi Raikkonen. Mercedes GP technical director Norbert Haug was seen visiting the Iceman who’s currently racing in the World Rally Championship.

Importance of Safety by Schumi & Villeneuve

Importance of Safety by Schumi & Villeneuve
As the Canadian Grand Prix is underway this weekend, Schumacher and former rival Jacques Villeneuve shared the stage at the Canadian Automotive Association (CAA, Canadian branch of AAA) Safety Event. The event held in Blainville, QC, just north of Montreal, showcases the importance of in-vehicle safety and technological breakthroughs for keeping drivers safe and grounded on the road.

According to the TorontoStar, “[s]ubjected to a question-and-answer period, Schumacher was asked if the blind-spot recognition system available in state-of-the-art road cars would have helped him avoid his infamous collision with Villeneuve.” Of course Schumi with his sense of humor defended himself by saying that ““It would have been a shame, because then we wouldn’t have anything to laugh about right now.”

Mercedes GP Petronas finishes 4th and 5th in Turkish Grand Prix

140 big Mercedes GP Petronas finishes 4th and 5th in Turkish Grand Prix

Despite starting out on the 5th and 6th grids, Mercedes GP Petronas finished a 4th-5th victory in the recently concluded Turkish Grand Prix at Istanbul Park today. It was a smooth, albeit quiet, race as both Michael Schumacher and Nico Rosberg were able to pull into their planned pit stops and still hold their positions ahead of their challengers.

As always, the weather played out pretty fairly for the team, as rain threatened to fall mid-race but only managed to score a few drops on the track. As if putting a curse on the Red Bull F1 Racing Team, those few drops managed to cause a collision between Sebastian Vettel and teammate Mark Webber, ruining the latter’s opportunity to score a hat trick victory. The crash opened up the chance for Michael to move up to fourth and for Nico to slide into fifth for the rest of the race.

Michael is quite glad he was able to keep the car in check despite tire temperatures dropping during a slow start. He was only able to hold off Jenson Button for a period, until the McLaren’s top-speed superiority took over.

Nico, on the other hand, was quite jovial about his successfully fast pit stops, albeit a bit dissatisfied, since his pace, although quicker than Michael’s, was limited by not being able to overtake and being wary of Robert Kubica who kept putting on pressure from behind.

Michael Schumacher & Co. deny pampering

michael schumacher california Michael Schumacher & Co. deny pampering

One thing about being a Formula One star is that you can’t really blame people for talking about things behind your back. Such is the case with our seven time champ, Michael Schumacher, who is now being accused of manipulating his F1 team. The accuser – a former wingman – J.J. Lehto. Why aren’t we surprised?

Michael has been known to, well, overshadow his wingmen. Ever since he stepped foot into the sport, his aggressive demeanor has often earned him the ire of his teammates, despite his victories. He always manages to steal the limelight, which most often resulted in envy towards him by his fellow drivers.

There is one F1 driver though that doesn’t quite fall into that description – Niki Lauda. The video of Mercedes GP Petronas defending their star driver along with Lauda is all over the internet. You’ll most probably find it on You Tube. Lauda even has the audacity to call people that spread rumors about Michael ‘idiots’.

Schumi has his own thing to say next to his team’s and Lauda’s protective remarks. He says he has never had a car built purposely for him by any of the teams he drove for. So yes, that includes Mercedes-Benz and Ferrari.

Nothing can be farther than the truth. Watch the video and judge for yourself. What do you think?

Mercedes GP To Present New F-Duct System In Turkish Grand Prix

mercedes gp to debut automatic f duct in turkey 20667 1 597x387 Mercedes GP To Present New F Duct System In Turkish Grand PrixBased on Auto Bild , the engineers based in Brackley have created an answer for the F-duct system that would not oblige the driver to operate it “hands-free” while driving. For this reason, it would be much easier for the driver to concentrate on his driving and allow the mechanism to do its job. Even though the F-duct technology has been excluded for the Formula One season 2011, the leading racers are still upgrading with car technology for this year. Ferrari and BMW Sauber have preferred to duplicate in some degree the McLaren’s design and present their own driver controlled F-duct system, where Mercedes GP also have plans of their own for this year. Based on Mercedes’ motorsport director, at the present, the F-duct system is still in its testing phase, and their solution would differ from the other racing teams.

The F-duct was recently disallowed for the next season subsequent to the Ferrari’s version of the design which was presented in Spain. A video of Fernand Alonso was shown trying to control the air flow in a straight line by putting one of his hands on the side of the cockpit which was deemed to be very dangerous. Based on the news, there is a high chance that the system would be presented on the W01 next weeked on the Turkish Grand Prix. The latest F-duct would be taking over the previous design, which diverts the airflow at high speed through a rear wing opening via a driver-controlled air inlet inside the cockpit. The driver would set off the system using his knees, which would add an extra 6mph of speed in straight line.
