mercedes benz econic delivered to singapore 23111 11 597x397 Singapore gets a load of natural gas powered Econic trucks

When it comes to caring for the environment, Mercedes-Benz never lets itself be left behind. And thus it recently began testing of its latest Econic trucks with natural gas technology in Singapore. The country’s biggest waste management company, Sembcorp, has signed up to conduct the testing with the goal of determining the realistic benefits of the Econic. It’s being graded based on its cost effectiveness and ability to satisfy customers.

Mercedes-Benz delivered to Sembcorp Econic trucks with two engine choices—an inline six cylinder diesel engine and one which is powered entirely by natural gas. The NGT engine, with product code M 906 LAG, has a 6.9 liter displacement and is capable of churning out 279 hp. These engines are equipped with BlueTec diesel technology, ensuring optimum combustion, emission reduction and improved fuel economy.

Other engines are made available on the OM 906 LA and OM 926 LA variants. These engines are capable of anything between 238 to 287 hp and 326 hp respectively, and can consume biodiesel without the need for any conversion.

In case you’re wondering, the Econic was originally created as a waste disposal truck back in 1998. After 12,000 units sold, 10 percent of which ran on natural gas, the Econic is now available in different specialized options.

Spy Photo: 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class with Interior

mercedes benz b class spy shots 597x120 Spy Photo: 2012 Mercedes Benz B Class with Interior
The present Mercedes-Benz B-Class has experienced great success in the majority of markets it has been showcased in, having sold over 120,000 units in its first year, but the latest version due in 2011 is foreseen to sell in much higher quantities and will be out in the U.S. market for the first time. According to the reports, to intensify sales, the German carmaker is aiming to expand the range by putting in new variants to accompany the regular hatch: a latest coupe-cabrio, a sporty hatchback to compete with BMW’s 1-series line and more likely a four-door sedan with coupe styling.

One of the models that is set for production, however, is the hatchback seen in the spy photo testing in prototype form. Based on the photo, it maintains the boxy appearance of the present model, even though its side profile is similar to the newly released 2011 Mercedes-Benz R-Class. The total look will line up closely with 2009’s BlueZERO concept family. Its interior shows that Mercedes designers have chosen a steering column lever for selecting the gears and have adjusted the stereo and navigation screen further up on the dashboard compared to the earlier model.

Clients should anticipate a line of small displacement turbo engines and latest hybrid variants offering in the B-Class model, as well as a hydrogen fuel cell model. The latest 2012 Mercedes-Benz B-Class is the sportiest of the AMG variant as corroborated by the tuning division’s outgoing boss Volker Mornhinweg late last month. AMG presently offers V-8 engines but will build an exclusively tuned four-cylinder engine for the B-Class. The model will rival other automobile lines such as the Volkswagen Golf R32 and Audi S3. According to the reports there would be an array of performance improvements that would include new brakes, a sporty bodykit and a top of the line interior.

In the past, Mercedes-Benz reversed a plan to bring the present B-Class Stateside due to reservations that it would harm the brand’s exclusivity and the low dollar exchange rate would make the model much expensive. However, surprising strong sales of the Smart Fortwo minicar are bringing renewed interest in putting up the B-Class and also the A-Class up in the market, in North America.

New BlueTEC engine and cutting-edge safety systems for the S-Class

677853193452376857 New BlueTEC engine and cutting edge safety systems for the S Class

The S350 is a fine vehicle. And it’s made even better with its BlueTEC engine. This car has both safety and comfort sprawled all over it and the performance of a super car. Powered by a V8 that uses fuel like a mid-sized sedan, it’s one of the most efficient, yet sizable and agile, premium cars there is. Its EPA has been improved to 6.8 litres per 100 kilometers, bumping up effiency by 0.8 liters from the previous model. It also exhales less carbon dioxide emission by as much as 11 percent less than its predecessor, from 199 to 177 grams per kilometer.

With efficiency well-established, the BlueTEC engine is capable of delivering 258 hp and 620 Nm of torque, as compared to its predecessor’s 235 hp rating. You’ll be able to accelerate from zero to a hundred in merely 7.1 seconds, while having an electronically limited top speed of 250 km/h. You can’t really ask for more than that for a diesel-powered luxury car. There simply won’t be enough road in the city.

The deal behind BlueTEC diesel technology is reduction of emissions, especially nitrous oxides, from diesel. The engine injects an aqueous urea compound called AdBlue® into the exhaust stream that releases ammonia, which naturally breaks down up to 80 percent of nitrogen oxides turning it into nitrogen gas and water, both harmless to the environment, for further processing in the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) catalytic converter. The end result? Absolute compliance with 2014 Euro 6 standards. You can’t get any cleaner and greener than that.

Coupled with Mercedes-Benz’s Active Lane Keeping Assist and Active Blind Spot Assist systems, BlueTEC technology puts the S350 at the top post of its class.

Mercedes-Benz introduces BlueTec EEV in buses

mercedes benz buses now available in eev versions 19268 1 285x430 Mercedes Benz introduces BlueTec EEV in buses

The race is on for zero emissions, and Mercedes-Benz is leading the pack in the bus segment. Taking things a step further from Euro 5 emission standard compliance, MB has now upgraded their buses with EEV technology.

EEV, which stands for Enhanced Environmentally Friendly Vehicle, dramatically improves a vehicle’s emissions without having to add any additional exhaust filter. EEV technology effectively reduces particle emissions by as much as one-third, a giant leap from previous versions.

Past versions of the EEV featured SCR technology, which stands for Selective Catalytic Reduction, plus a diesel particulate filter in the exhaust line to cut down as much emissions as possible. The current EEV is able to cut down emissions even further through various advancements in engine design.

EEV is based solely on Mercedes-Benz’s BlueTec 5 diesel technology. Merecedes-Benz upgraded various components of their design to effectively achieve lower emissions. Fuel injection was tweaked using new injector nozzles, piping and mounting systems.

With these improvements, you’re looking at more cost-effective maintenance, longer service life, improved fuel economy and less curb weight which translates to improved overall handling and performance.

The new EEV technology is available in Mercedes-Benz buses with OM457 hLA/LA and 926 LA engines.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks to strengthen market dominance with production plant in Turkey

mercedes benz actros takes truck of the year 2009 title in poland 2 540x359 Mercedes Benz Trucks to strengthen market dominance with production plant in Turkey

When you’ve got things going for you, it just seems right to keep doing what you’re doing till it comes full circle. That’s exactly what Mercedes-Benz Trucks aims for by localizing production in Aksaray, Turkey, their number three country in terms of sales market share.

Right now, there is a great demand for heavy duty, long-distance road haulage trucks in Turkey’s premium truck segment. Mercedes-Benz Trucks is looking to fill that demand by setting up shop in Aksaray to further establish market dominance of their flagship vehicle, the Mercedes-Benz Actros.

Mercedes-Benz Trucks currently holds a 41.1 percent market share in the heavy-duty trucks segment. With the construction of the Aksaray plant, Mercedes-Benz trucks will be hitting two birds with one stone – strengthen the market share and secure employment for the workers in the nearby Worth plant.

The plan is to ship Actros parts kits from Worth plant to Aksaray for assembly. Also included in their production are the Mercedes-Benz Atego, Axor and Unimog. The entire vehicle fleet will feature the tried-and-tested Mercedes-Benz BlueTec engines, certified for both Euro 4 and 5 emission standards.

Worth and Aksaray plants will work hand-in-hand to produce trucks for both the domestic and exports markets.
