Mercedes-Benz Affirms 10% Return Of Sales Goal

zetsche 597x400 Mercedes Benz Affirms 10% Return Of Sales GoalAfter a meeting with some investors and analysts in Beijing, the Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, showed optimism with regards to the German automaker’s excellent financial outcome. According to Dieter Zetsche, from the present outlook, if the world economy continues to get better, they foresee Mercedes-Benz Cars to attain its goal of reaching a 10 percent return of sales in the second half of 2012 and sustain it till 2013. Additionally, he expects Mercedes-Benz Cars’ EBIT in the second quarter of 2010 to be much formidable compared to the first quarter. Based on the news, the company’s earnings before interest and taxes or EBIT in the first quarter of 2010 reached €806 million.

The Chairman of the Board of Management made clear that the most relevant factors in an affirmative business development are the sustainable growth attained with their “Gofor10” efficiency program, the strong product portfolio and the excellent drive the Mercedes-Benz brand has. Last April 2010, the company already sold 12 percent more vehicles compared to April last year, and more considerable growth is foreseen in May and June. Based on Zetsche, the result of the first six months of this year cannot be concluded to the whole 2010, because in the second half of 2010, Mercedes-Benz cars is reported to allocated more money on C02-related research and development and is projected to have a much higher capital expenditure for the new vehicle lines.

Zetsche also noted that he anticipates the company’s EBIT for 2010 to be close to their projected €2.5 to €3 billion. Dr. Zetsche also expressed the relevance of the Chinese car market, where he also realized the fact that this was the first time Daimler set up a company event for investors and analysts in Beijing. He also added that China is becoming notable to Daimler as this 2010, China was reported to attain the third largest sales market for Mercedes-Benz next to Germany and the US.

Mercedes-Benz Cars expects Great Sales Data for Second Quarter of 2010

For the second quarter of 2010, Mercedes-Benz Cars has confirmed 10% return-on-sales target and also anticipates improved EBIT (earnings before interest and taxes).

Dr. Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of Daimler’s Management Board and head of Mercedes-Benz cars, said, “China is increasingly becoming the center of gravity of the automotive industry and has recently become Mercedes-Benz Cars’ third-largest sales market.

Daimler AG is highly optimistic and anticipates sound growth opportunities in terms of revenue, unit sales and earnings. The company had earlier posted its EBIT of €806 million in the first quarter of 2010.

During a meeting with analysts and investors in Beijing, Dr. Dieter Zetsche said, “From today’s perspective, assuming there is no further downturn of the world economy, we expect Mercedes-Benz Cars to achieve its targeted return on sales of 10 percent in the second half of 2012 and to maintain it as of full-year 2013.

The Chairman expects good practical strides of business development in the coming months at the Mercedes-Benz Cars unit. The key factors leading this growth are:

  • The ‘Gofor10’ efficiency program
  • The potent product portfolio
  • The good brand momentum of the three-pointed star.
  • The foundations for this success were laid during the economic crisis when Daimler performed strategic market study.

The consequences of these efforts will be reflected in the second quarter results of 2010. Zetsche added, “From today’s perspective, we expect Mercedes-Benz Cars’ EBIT in the second quarter of this year to be higher than in the first quarter. Nonetheless, I can say that Mercedes-Benz Cars’ EBIT for the year 2010 will be at the upper end of our forecast of €2.5 billion to €3 billion.”

So far in the second quarter, Mercedes-Benz has already surpassed its previous year’s car sales for the same months. The second quarter will also be more promising due to better pricing, optimized cost structure and enhanced product mix. The 300,000 vehicles production output in the second quarter is close to the output achieved prior to the start of the economic and financial crisis.

Zetsche cited China as automotive industry’s ‘center of gravity’ and said, “China is becoming more and more important also for Daimler. This year, China has already become Mercedes-Benz Cars’ third-largest sales market after Germany and the United States.” In 2010, the brand anticipates to sell more than 100,000 Mercedes-Benz vehicles in China. China has emerged as the world’s biggest market for the R-Class and S-Class models.

Lost in Translation: Did Mercedes mean to use the term “Brake”?

Mercedes Benz CLS Shooting Break Concept Car Beijing Auto Show013 597x379 Lost in Translation: Did Mercedes mean to use the term Brake?
Just last month, Mercedes-Benz announced the Shooting Break Concept at the Beijing Motor Show, touting it as the next-gen CLS Wagon. Everyone, including us, was wondering if Mercedes used the wrong term to describe their new concept, but report after report, press release after press release, the term Shooting Break was the official name. We even wrote an article clarifying why they used the term “Break” instead of the traditional “Brake”. Mercedes-Benz officials explained that Shooting Breaks “were popular in Great Britain, exclusive crossover vehicles which combined the luxuriousness of a coupe with the luggage space of an estate”

Could Mercedes-Benz have meant to call it the “Shooting Brake”, but mistakenly used Break and once they noticed the mistake, they just ran with it, saying that they mean to use it. That actually might be true, since according to a Mercedes-Benz USA Spokesperson,Mercedes intended to call the station wagon concept version of the next-generation CLS a Brake. Was this really a case of “Lost in Translation”, we might never find out, since once the concept becomes a production vehicle, it will lose the concept title.

Paris-to-Bejing E-class cars are returning home

111755607a148__mid.jpg
Remember the Mercedes E-Class Marathon from Paris to Beijing that I covered 6 weeks ago, well the marathon has been completed and all the drivers returned to their native countries, but the cars remained in China. The next challenge for Mercedes was getting the cars back to Germany for inspections and to drivers that purchased them. Many participants had already taken out purchase options on “their” beloved E-Class vehicles during the marathon trip to Beijing and can now hardly wait to take delivery of their car.

“Drive an E-Class once and you’ll want to drive it forever”: this certainly seems to reflect the mindset of the participants in the E Class marathon who have decided to purchase the very vehicles which they drove from Paris to Beijing. Before they could embark on their second career as private cars or show vehicles exhibited by sponsorship partners and Mercedes-Benz subsidiaries in various countries, these reliable business saloons once again had to travel tens of thousands of kilometres. But, in contrast to the demanding outward journey, this time they were travelling as well-protected cargo.

DaimlerChrysler has developed a new flagship model in the Maybach line-up, the newly developed Maybach 62 S, is celebrating its world premiere at the Auto China 2006 international motor show in Beijing. The “S” in the model designation stands for “Special” and draws attention to the fact that the Maybach engineers at the state-of-the-art Manufacture workshops in Sindelfingen have incorporated features requested by their highly discerning customers into the 62 S model. The result is a new dimension in traveling comfort, especially for the passengers in the generously proportioned rear compartment of the new high-end luxury saloon. Not to mention a prodigious power output thanks to the enhanced potency of the twelve-cylinder engine developing 450 kW/612 hp, making the new 62 S model the world’s most powerful chauffeur-driven saloon in series production.
