SLS AMG body and performance kit by FAB Design

FAB D Mercedes SLS AMG 2 597x397 SLS AMG body and performance kit by FAB Design

Tuners just can’t keep their hands off the SLS AMG. The latest company to come up with their reworked version of the Gullwing supercar is none other than Swiss tuning corp FAB Design. We’re not so sure yet what the specs are on their SLS, but we can assure you that the power rating would at least be 40 more horses than the stock V8. So that means a minimum power of 611 horses, enough to give you a 3.7-second dash from zero to sixty, just 0.1 seconds faster than in stock form.

So what else is new with FAB Design’s SLS? Well, of course, as with any real tuning company, there’s always the customized body kit, to give the supercar a different character. The FAB Design kit includes a redesigned front bumper, additional air vents, a lip spoiler, side skirts, a race type roof air scoop, restyled rear bumper to locate four exhaust tips, plus a fixed rear wing. And oh, don’t forget the 20-inch rims that fit tightly thanks to lowering suspension.

If you ask us, FAB Design’s body kit gives the SLS AMG that young, street tuned look, a far cry from the SLS AMG GT3. Still, with this body kit, you’re sure to get eyes rolling on your ride while it’s sitting in the parking lot.

SLS AMG GT3 up for VLN testing

If you are part of two fortunate teams participating at the next VLN endurance championship races, then you’ll get the chance to see and work on the SLS AMG GT3 as it takes a spin around the track. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to be up close and personal with the GT3, and it’s going to happen on October 16 and 30. Each day of testing will last for approximately four hours, and all the testing data that’ll be collected will be used in further development of the GT3.

So if you ever dreamed of being like Ayrton Senna is to the Honda NSX, or Michael Schumacher is to much of Ferrari’s production cars, this is your chance. It’s the closest you’ll get to being part of a race car’s development stages. We guess you can pretty much figure out why Mercedes-Benz is doing this. They’ll be offering a reworked version of the GT3 to the teams racing in next year’s season. The only thing is, only a couple private teams will be invited to do the testing.

So which are these two teams? Namely Mamerow Racing and Black Falcon. Both of these teams have signaled their interest in using the GT3 for 2011. Their drivers must be waiting with bated breath as we speak.

The SLS AMG GT3 goes online

Let’s see. You’re a big Mercedes-Benz fan, and nothing would please you more than to own and drive your very own SLS AMG super car. The problem is, you can’t. Whether it be financial or just because of availability of the SLS AMG in your country. But maybe you can settle for the next best thing online—a website dedicated to the FIA-spec version of the SLS AMG, the GT3.

Of course, you’re all aware that Mercedes-Benz hasn’t really released detailed specs of the GT3. But think about this—you get a lot less weight from all the modifications that AMG put into the GT3, so imagine how a 6.3-liter V8 will then behave under less load. Think in terms of zero to sixty in merely 3.8 seconds, plus a top speed of 180 miles per hour. Not bad, eh? Not bad at all.

But then again, maybe you’d want to check out the website. It’s got a wealth of information about the SLS AMG GT3. So if you’re a FIA fan, or just simply mad about the Gullwing supercar, make sure to get that mouse clicking. The SLS AMG GT3 waits for no man nor machine—on the track, that is.

Top Gear scrapes sports car bellies in New York

It’s no surprise that the trio of Top Gear are seen filming some video in New York City. Everyone knows where the blasted trio goes to, especially with the kind of horsepower that they pack. The video that was being shot will feature Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond gallivanting around New York City in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the Ferrari 458, and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

You won’t really enjoy the clip for its being mundane. In fact, you might get horrified during the last minute, where the trio of BBC boys come face to face with a broken section of road and have to drive up and over a raised surface. Ouch! Oh well, if they could afford to drive these cars, then they can definitely pay for any damage that the cars sustain while under their able hands.

Seriously, what kind of driver would actually force a really low Porsche up a really high curb? It’s no different from having an object with high velocity coming into contact with a wall. Bad things are bound to happen. This despite 100-pound Hammond being behind the Porsche’s controls. What more if Clarkson were manning the Porsche’s helm?

SLS GT3 crashes in track debut

Kudos to Frikadelli Racing Team for sourcing this exclusive video of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 crashing in its track debut. Not that we’re too happy about the GT3 meeting tragedy. In fact, it’s heartbreaking to see something so full of potential screwing up on the track at high speed. You can’t help but blame the driver, especially once you’re caught in fascination by the GT3’s unique beauty and finesse.

Frikadella’s onboard camera caught the action while rolling on their Porsche racecar behind the GT3. The Gullwing was being driven by five-time DTM champion-now AMG brand ambassador Bernd Schneider when it crashed into Christian Hohenadel’s Corvette on the very first lap of the race. The consequence? Both of them had to quit the race prematurely. Talk about making a grand exit.

Three hours and eight minutes later, it was all over. Many accidents followed suit after the Gullwing met with the Corvette. By then, Bernd was three laps behind in 91st place.

The race was scheduled to run for around four hours as part of the VLN Nurburgring Endurance Championship. It was also part and parcel of the GT3’s development and testing program, which includes track competition, strategizing and endurance.

Well then, enough chit-chat. Watch the video yourself for full effect. Hit 2:20 to witness all the bone-crushing action.
