[Video] Michael Scheer and Nico Rosberg Take New SLK for a Spin

It’s really nice if you can just whip out your pocket camera or mobile phone camera and shoot a nice little video that can be used to market a new product. That’s exactly what Mercedes-Benz development engineer and SLK lead engineer Michael Scheer did in Monaco on the last day of testing for the new SLK model.

Together with Mercedes GP Formula One race driver Nico Rosberg, Scheer took the new SLK out for a joyride through the European city-state’s winding roads and sharp streets, navigating the bends and corners and braving the traffic signals to see just how sporty and agile the car is.

Throughout the video, Rosberg samples some of the SLK’s technologies, including the start-stop system as well as the variable suspension settings. They even play with the “magic sunroof” a little, too. If you’d like to see what the F1 driver has to say about the car, well, stop reading and just go ahead to the video.

Of course, it’s really more of a marketing pitch rather than an honest to goodness review, but hey—it’s Nico Rosberg we’re talking about here. If anyone knows what makes a good car, an F1 driver is a pretty good judge.

MKB Upgrades The SL To Supercar Levels

MKBP1000 MKB Upgrades The SL To Supercar Levels
MKB, a tuner of Mercedes-Benz automobiles, has introduced the P1000 model, an SL with 1015 horsepower on tap. With the increase in power comes a corresponding increase in torque, with the maximum delivery situated between 3300 and 6000 rpm.

In repeated tests to verify the car’s performance, a very quick 3.6 seconds was recorded for the 0-100 km sprint. And the stunning acceleration doesn’t stop there. Another 5.3 seconds of nailing the throttle to the floor will get you to 200 and in 21.5 seconds, you will have reached 300 kph. To test the car’s top speed, the car was shod with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires at a track in Papenburg, where it repeatedly hit a top speed of 350 kph. No tricks like folded side mirrors or taped vents were employed to achieve these speeds.

Modifying the 6.0-liter V12 to produce and handle upwards of 1000 horsepower necessitated new components to the turbocharger and cooling systems, among others. The fuel system components were also modified in order handle the engine’s enormous demands for a constant and voluminous fuel supply. Gearbox internals as well as the limited slip differential are uprated to handle the enormous spike in torque.

All these modifications will take around three months for the craftsmen at MKB to perform. The resulting vehicle is one like no other and can run with the likes of cars from Ferrari and Lamborghini.

[Video] 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLK promo video leaked

Mercedes-Benz is know for releasing their very own spy-shots to stir up some publicity, but this is certainly something that didn’t happen intentionally – a leaked promo clip of the all-new SLK. A French promotional clip was somehow leaked on the interweb, giving us all a 10 minute long preview of all the cool and innovative features that will be available with the 2012 SLK.

As you’ll see in the clip, the panoramic sunroof can make you choose between a transparent or darkened roof at the touch of the button that takes a few seconds. In the transparent mode it also blocks UV and infrared light that allows interior components to stay cool! Looking around inside, it will show to have adopted some SLS features like a bold-designed center console and a special clock mounted on top of the dash.

Outside, it can also have optional sports AMG package that give it a more aggressive design for the front fascia and AMG rims. Going around the SLK you see features like front quarter vents, a boot lid spoiler and LED taillights.

Once again the engine that comes with this 2012 Mercedes SLK remains unknown as of this time. The hint given is that it is going to be a powerful direct injection engine that also incorporates the ECO stop-start function that is also being used in some of their car models. That is Mercedes Benz – thinking way ahead of competition and not waiting for them.

There are so many aftermarket designers that create specilized bodykits and modification that a normal person can’t even keep up. We have written about a couple them already and here’s another – Piecha Design. They use the R171 Final Performance RS edition name that is focused on the exterior, interior and engine of the Mercedes-Benz SLK.

The “final edition series” kit is suitable for those that have not been face-lifted and the face-lifted models and the AMG. The package includes front apron with LED daytime running lights, front lid aluminum aerowings, special wind deflector, side-skirts with air intakes, rear bumper cum diffuser and a rear spoiler lip – all for the car’s exterior.

The entire engine performance that sets into the vehicle immediately is courtesy of the legendary PIECHA power converter of the “Final Performance RS Edition”. The exact specification of the output, however, was not indicated by the tuner.

A beautiful feature is of course the Piecha dp2 Phantom rims with 19-inch wheels with 225/35 tires for the front, and, 20-inch wheels with 265/25 tires on the rear – (Would this not require two sets of spare tires?). Modification for the interior offers only a black Nappa leather finish with red seams.

Carlsson Super-GT C25 to Appear at Essen Motor Show

CarlssonC25front 597x396 Carlsson Super GT C25 to Appear at Essen Motor ShowThe Mercedes-Benz SL-based Super-GT C25 from German tuner Carlsson is set to wow onlookers once more as it takes the stage at the upcoming Essen Motor Show, which opens this 27th of November and lasts through December 5th. Carlsson is also set to showcase a C63 AMG-based vehicle called the CK63 RS, which is rated at a relatively modest 600 horsepower.

The Carlsson C25 made its debut at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show last March, showcasing its undeniable good looks with custom livery, yet the Mercedes-Benz SL base still shows in the modified exterior. The vehicle sports a 6-liter twin turbo V12 engine rated at a whopping 753 horsepower along with 974 lb.-ft. of torque. With a top speed of 220 mph and a 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) time of 3.7 seconds, the C25 is certainly a beast.

Not only is the C25 powerful, but it is also very exclusive. Only 25 units of the car will be produced, and potential owners will also be able to customize their ride further using a wide range of color combinations for the interior and the exterior of the car. Additionally, the power of the vehicle isn’t meant only for show or to be showcased within the confines of a race track. As Carlsson CEO Markus Schuster stated, the C25 was designed such that owners can still safely use the vehicle for daily transport, such as from one’s home to the workplace.
