[F1] Lauda Downplays Vettel Pursuit

We reported that Niki Lauda kind of confirmed courting defending 3-time F1 champion Sebastian Vettel, but apparently, there was really no need for Mercedes AMG Petronas fans to get excited. Aside from the stronger Ferrari rumors, Lauda is now downplaying the pursuit, saying that the Red Bull superstar is still signed to a contract and that Mercedes is happy with the combination of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. “We’re not trying to get him, as he has signed a contract with Red Bull until forever,” said Lauda to Osterreich, a newspaper in Austria. [F1] Mercedes AMG Petronas Courting Sebastian Vettel

Niki Lauda has confirmed that he is courting Red Bull Racing’s Sebastian Vettel, the man who is arguably the most dominant driver in Formula 1 at the moment. This was confirmed via the Bild am Sonntag newspaper. The effort to have Vettel join the team is something that Lauda says was begun by the previous motorsport director at Mercedes-Benz, Norbert Haug. As well he should, according to Red Bull F1 consultant Dr. Helmut Marko. Vettel is currently on top of the drivers’ standings, 10 points ahead of Lotus driver Kimi Raikkonen. Mercedes AMG Performance Drive to Feature Schumacher, Rosberg in Nurburgring Warm-up

In the lead-up to the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring on May 19, Mercedes-Benz will stage a special showcase called Mercedes AMG Performance Drive, which will pit a quartet of Mercedes AMG vehicles against the lone F1 Silver Arrow to be driven by motorsport legend Michael Schumacher. The vehicles will go out on the track at different times, but are slated to reach the finish line all at the same time. Mercedes-Benz W 154 Silver Arrow: 75 Years Since Historic Triple Victory

In a week’s time, Mercedes-Benz will be celebrating the 75th anniversary of the historic major race debut of the W 154 Silver Arrow. On May 15, 1938, at the Tripoli Grand Prix, the Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrows rode all the way to a triple victory at the first major race of the season. Hermann Lang won the GP after logging 2:33:17.14 over 40 laps driving in the new car, but he was followed across the finish line by teammates Manfred von Brauchitsch and Rudolf Caracciola, who would be subsequently named European Champion. [DTM] Vietoris with Podium Finish, Paffett Fourth for Mercedes-Benz

While the team was not able to claim a win in the season-opening race at Hockenheim, Christian Vietoris and Gary Paffett ensured that the team would be off to a strong start. Vietories claimed his first DTM podium finish after coming in third behind race winner Augusto Farfus and second-placer Dirk Werner, while Gary Paffett crossed the finish line around three seconds later for fourth place. Mercedes-Benz Becomes Main Automotive Sponsor for Mille Miglia Event

In order to establish a “long-term collaboration,” Mercedes-benz Classic and 1000 Miglia S.R.L., the entity behind Mille Miglia endurance race, have struck a partnership that will see Mercedes-Benz become the main automotive sponsor for the event. As expected because of the company’s extensive participation in the event throughout its history, Mercedes-Benz will be fielding a number of vehicles in this year’s iteration of the Mille Miglia. [2013 DTM] Vietoris, Wickens Secure Second Row for Mercedes-Benz at Season Opener

It’s only the qualifying session for the first race of the 2013 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season, and the young guns of the Mercedes-Benz team are already pushing hard.
