F1: Hamilton wins Hungarian GP, takes lead in championship race

Things are starting to heat up now. Lewis Hamilton took home the victory at the 2016 Hungarian Grand Prix, and in doing so, also takes the lead in the F1 drivers’ championship race for the first time all season. Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg fought hard until the end but had to settle for second place despite starting from pole position. Rosberg led the pack since race one, and now finds himself 6 points behind Hamilton. The good news is he’s headed back to Germany after this, and should have a strong outing at his home race next weekend. Still, it was another one-two finish for Mercedes, which has been as dominant as… Continue Reading »

F1: Hamilton wins third straight British Grand Prix; Rosberg finishes third

Lewis Hamilton displayed fine form in his home race Sunday, taking his third-straight British Grand Prix victory over his teammate Nico Rosberg and thus shaving more points off the deficit in championship points. The win drove wild some 135,000 fans who were on hand at Silverstone. Rosberg’s lead in the drivers’ standings has now been cut to a mere point, after an investigation for radio correspondence between him and the team led stewards to slap Rosberg with a 10-second time penalty. With five laps left, Rosberg encountered gearbox problems that had him stuck in seventh gear, and stewards are currently checking to see if the amount of information exchanged exceeded the maximum allowable… Continue Reading »

British Grand Prix: Hamilton qualifies in pole ahead of Mercedes front row

Add one more Mercedes front-row qualification to this year’s list. Lewis Hamilton drove a superb qualifying at the British Grand Prix as he edged out Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg for pole position. Hamilton posted a time of 1:29.287, around a third of a second better than Rosberg’s, for his third-straight pole and his sixth overall this season. It is the 55th pole of his career, and his fourth at Silverstone. Rosberg also escaped being slapped a penalty after stewards cleared him of any fault after he drove too slowly at one point during qualifying. This allows Mercedes to keep its fifth front-row lockout of the season. Hamilton was especially appreciative of the… Continue Reading »

F1: Hamilton, Rosberg could face suspensions for future collisions

Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg are locked in a tight battle for the 2016 Formula One driver’s championship, and it doesn’t help one bit that they are teammates. Competition between the two have led to some ugly crashes and unnecessary contact in the past, and now the two could face fines or even suspensions from Mercedes if they are to collide in a race again. This is seen as a way for the team to avoid actually issuing team orders. With contact between the Mercedes cars in three out of the past five outings, team officials are now forced to act to prevent excessive competition between their drivers from sabotaging their… Continue Reading »

Hamilton wins 2016 Austrain GP; Rosberg finishes 4th for Mercedes

Lewis Hamilton took home the victory at the 2016 Austrian Grand Prix, fending off Red Bull’s Max Verstappen and Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. He has now won his third race out of the last four, cutting into the points lead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg once again. At the final lap, Rosberg was still actually in a position to win until he ran wide as he exited from turn 1. Hamilton pounced at the opportunity, but not after the two cars made contact. Rosberg had sparks coming out of his Mercedes, and he was visibly slowed down. Lewis passed him soon after and went on to the chequered flag. Rosberg was slapped with a 10-second penalty… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg wins European GP; Hamilton finishes fifth for Mercedes

Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Nico Rosberg was able to pad his lead a bit after seeing it evaporate in the past few races. The point leader took home the win at the European Grand Prix, scoring the maiden victory at F1’s newest track at the Baku City Circuit in Azerbaijan. Sebastian Vettel of Ferrari secured second spot, while the final podium slot was taken by Force India’s Sergio Perez, who recovered from a gearbox-change five-place grid penalty after posting the second-fastest qualifying time. The other Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton managed to go from a P10 start to a fifth-place finish, but it could’ve been higher had it not been for the… Continue Reading »

F1: Rosberg tops qualifying at European Grand Prix; Hamilton to start in P10

Nico Rosberg should be feeling a bit better now. The points leader so far in the 2016 Formula One season has had his lead slashed from 43 down to just nine, but he will get a boost at the European Grand Prix after qualifying in pole position. What’s more, his Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton ran into problems and hit a wall in Q3, resulting in a red flag for the session and a P10 start for Hamilton. This was after Hamilton made light of the difficulties that drivers were pointing out about the new street circuit in Baku. He had the right to up until FP3, though, posting dominating times. But… Continue Reading »
