Mercedes SLS AMG GT3 Successful in the Second VLN Race

The victorious gullwing with a starting number of 738 was operated by the private team Black Falcon, with Thomas Jäger and Christoper Haase being the primary drivers. According to the statement of Thomas Jäger, “We’re all delighted with the first victory of the SLS AMG GT3 on its second outing here on the North Loop. Despite difficult weather conditions, we had a problem-free race. The gullwing is not only fast, but it also impresses with its excellent stability. Today, we again collected valuable knowledge to assist our further development work in the test program”.

The next scheduled race for the SLS AMG GT3 will be in the finals of the VLN series that would be held on October 30, 2010. At the beginning of the Dubai 24 Hours (UAE) on January 13 – 15, 2011, where three SLS AMG GT3 autmobiles are set to participate.

The team’s sister car, numbered 739, was raced by Mamerow-Racing, driven by Bernd Schneider and Christian Mamerow started the race in pole position but was necessitated to drop out during the fifth lap run after colliding with an Audi R8 LMS. This happened while the 739 was in second place. Bernd Schneider also stated that, “Even though I didn’t get to drive today because of the early accident, we’re all highly satisfied with how the overall racing weekend has gone. The SLS AMG GT3 was able to demonstrate its performance credentials both in qualifying and during the race”. It is expected that the 2 teams will race the gullwing again in the forthcoming VLN season in 2011.

Other hopeful racing teams can utilize the latest SLS AMG GT3 in all race series as stated in the FIA GT3 regulations. Some races that can include the car would be the FIA GT3 European Championship, the ADAC GT Masters, the VLN long distance championship and also the 24 hour races held at Nurburgring or in the Spa-Francorchamps in Belguim.

Top Gear scrapes sports car bellies in New York

It’s no surprise that the trio of Top Gear are seen filming some video in New York City. Everyone knows where the blasted trio goes to, especially with the kind of horsepower that they pack. The video that was being shot will feature Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond gallivanting around New York City in the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, the Ferrari 458, and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS.

You won’t really enjoy the clip for its being mundane. In fact, you might get horrified during the last minute, where the trio of BBC boys come face to face with a broken section of road and have to drive up and over a raised surface. Ouch! Oh well, if they could afford to drive these cars, then they can definitely pay for any damage that the cars sustain while under their able hands.

Seriously, what kind of driver would actually force a really low Porsche up a really high curb? It’s no different from having an object with high velocity coming into contact with a wall. Bad things are bound to happen. This despite 100-pound Hammond being behind the Porsche’s controls. What more if Clarkson were manning the Porsche’s helm?

Inside the Cigarette 46′ Rider XP showcases marine-grade upholstery manufactured to replicate the two tone porcelain and white Nappa leather in the SLS AMG. Based on a statement by a Cigarette company official, the boat showcases more than 100 technical innovations, which includes an upgraded shape and extreme weight-reducing. The 46 foot racing boat was manufactured over a 24-month time frame and boasts of many features. So if you have around EUR 900,000 to spare, this could be the perfect choice for you.

Insider Cam: Top Gear puts Camaro and E63 AMG in blood fest

You know how the boys at Top Gear are. They’re despicably adventurous when it comes to road and track-testing cars. They’re also crazy enough to pit cars that are of totally different segments, just for the fun of it. To refresh your memory, these guys had paired a Ford Fiesta and a Chevrolet Corvette against one another, AND tried running a Jaguar XK120 alongside a Vincent Black Shadow plus a train.

Seriously. So if you take their results in confidence, then you’re probably as terminally crazy as they are. And if there’s anything this show is all about, it’s fun, fun and more fun with cars.

In their latest video, they put the Chevrolet Camaro up against a very unlikely foe—the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. Granted, both cars have a similarly displaced 6.2-liter V8 engine, but engine specs can be deceiving on paper. Still, you have to admit it’s very entertaining to see The Stig hoon the Benz around Top Gear’s air strip test track in an attempt to par with the Camaro.

Oh, what the heck!? If you’re into vuvuzela, then you might enjoy watching this video with The Stig jabbing the German luxury car’s throttle. And if there’s anything in this video that’s worth watching, it’s seeing the Benz hooning around a track like it isn’t supposed to. Enjoy, people.

Pagani Zonda R is the New Nurburgring God

The Nurburgring is so amazing that it has become the epicenter of ‘ego battle’ between carmakers that aim at performance. A huge number of vehicles target to get ahead of the Nordschelife record lap time for their specific category. The German tarmac has a capacity to serve far more than its original testing and racing purposes. These vehicles and competitions have transformed as a great instrument for marketing. Sites like Nurburgring, even attract attention of spy photographers and have turned out to be one of their hot spots.

The main motive for a grand gamut of go-fast vehicles is not only to obliterate the ring record but to beat it significantly. Pagani Zonda R is one such latest car which has been able to achieve such a feat. According to reports by the Top Gear Italia, Pagani Zonda R has fired through the entire track in 6 m and 47 s. Still, this record is not the main record that most super powered car producers intend to beat. Instead of it, the car makers aim at targeting the best time in the category incorporating racing versions of the road legal machines. To be more precise about this category of super cars, it includes the most admired “la crème de le crème” of the automotive world, inaugurated by Ferrari F599XX, better known as the consumer racing program of Ferrari.

It is a fact that the Ferrari F599XX’s record time was easily beaten by the sports version of Pagani Zonda. The racing horse’s racer also achieved a Nordschelife lap time of 6.58 minutes.

There are merely 15 units of Zonda R in the whole word. It is a ‘super vehicle’ that weighs just 1070 kg and is propelled by 6 L V12 unit custom developed by AMG. The engine punishes the wheel at the rear with 750 hp and an earth shattering torque of 710 Nm. The car is priced at EUR 500,000 and manages to sprint from 0 to 62 miles per hour in mere 2.7 seconds.
