Washington car2go Celebrates First Year of Service

The Washington, D.C. branch of Daimler’s car2go car-sharing service is celebrating its first year this month, a year marked by 19,000 registrations, and over 350,000 rides on the 350 smart fortwo units that members can use throughout the city. Over the past year, car2go Washington has added 150 new fortwo units in order to keep up with the demand. In addition, the branch has partnered with Washington, D.C.-based taxi booking and payment app myTaxi. Now, through the car2go app, D.C. members can not only search for smart fortwo car2go units, they can also book  a cab ride. Car2go a Hit in Seattle

After its first 90 days of operation in Seattle, it would seem that the car2go carsharing service is a hit. There have been 18,000 registrations over those first 3 months, showing that the city has embraced the point-to-point carsharing program with open arms. Special-edition smart fortwo cityflame Due April 2013

There’s just something about fortwo special-edition units—this time, smart is releasing a special edition cityflame variant. The flame yellow body panels and black accents are sure to make the car a hit among smart enthusiasts and those simply looking for a cool, eco-friendly ride. Enhancements Set For New Smart Fortwo

Sources inside Mercedes-Benz disclosed that the new model of the Smart Fortwo will feature a one-and-a-half box design instead of the current single-box profile, once it enters the market next year. The bonnet of the new Smart Fortwo will be longer while its width will increase. Replacement fortwo Loses Its Renault Diesel

Back in late 2010, it was reported that Daimler and Renault-Nissan had signed an agreement to share drivetrains, with the agreement seeming to benefit the French-Japanese alliance more, as they would have had access to AMG’s engines. But other reports then came to light that Daimler’s smart division would be using Renaults miserly turbodiesel for the replacement fortwo. This is not to be, however, as a British magazine says that Renault has reportedly backed out of the deal.
