London car2go to Expand Business Area in June

Car-sharing service car2go is set to expand its London business area come June, with the  new business area covering 100 square miles to take effect in a few days. The London car2go service launched in December of last year, in Islington as well as Sutton. The service has expanded from the initial two boroughs to include large areas. There’s Croydon, Kingston, Raynes Park, Richmond, South Lambeth, Southwark, and Wimbledon. The service, however, will be suspended in Newham in order to focus on higher demand in other areas within London. The new business area will have 500 of these smart vehicles available on demand. car2go Sets Up Shop in Birmingham

May 8th marks the start of the new car2go on-demand service in Birmingham, with 250 smart fortwo cars initially on offer for use within its free-floating home area that covers 21 square miles of the English city. Mercedes-Benz USA Names Webster New smart GM on Top of Other Moves

Mercedes-Benz USA has just named previous pre-owned and fleet ops general manager Mark Webster as the new overall smart GM, replacing Tracey Matura, who then moves on to Chicago to become the GM for the central region. The shuffling becomes official on May 1. “Leveraging talent is a great way to drive a company’s corporate culture,” said MBUSA president and CEO Steve Cannon. Washington car2go Celebrates First Year of Service

The Washington, D.C. branch of Daimler’s car2go car-sharing service is celebrating its first year this month, a year marked by 19,000 registrations, and over 350,000 rides on the 350 smart fortwo units that members can use throughout the city. Over the past year, car2go Washington has added 150 new fortwo units in order to keep up with the demand. In addition, the branch has partnered with Washington, D.C.-based taxi booking and payment app myTaxi. Now, through the car2go app, D.C. members can not only search for smart fortwo car2go units, they can also book  a cab ride. After its first 90 days of operation in Seattle, it would seem that the car2go carsharing service is a hit. There have been 18,000 registrations over those first 3 months, showing that the city has embraced the point-to-point carsharing program with open arms.
