Mercedes F1 chief says no to new Concorde Agreement

Nick Fry foresees tense battle over Concorde Agreement renewal due in 2013 Formula 1 news 110456 Mercedes F1 chief says no to new Concorde Agreement

Mercedes F1 Chief Executive Nick Fry has finally broken his silence amidst the Concorde Agreement deal being offered to the team.

He refuses to sign it as talks with Bernie Ecclestone fail to gain traction. Fry believes that the F1 honcho is peddling chunkier offers to rivals Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari.

Fry warns that “If CVC wish to float Formula 1, I think they need this resolved fairly quickly, possibly more than we need it resolved.” He also waters down rumors that Mercedes will be leaving Formula One.

He says that “the mindset is absolutely in capital letters: Mercedes-Benz wishes to be in Formula 1. I would add that Formula 1 also needs Mercedes-Benz. I am completely convinced in my mind that if CVC wish to sell some or all of Formula 1, the value they can derive from that would be severely diminished if Mercedes was not a participant.”

Another anonymous Mercedes F1 official refers to the situation as putting Formula 1′s fate into the hands of Ferrari, McLaren and Red Bull.

As a Mercedes F1 fan, we’re sure you won’t stand up for that either.

29 cents a minute lets you buzz around Berlin in a Smart car

Can’t get enough of Smart cars? Then the place to be is Berlin. The place is crawling with these cars, which according to Daimler aim to take over a big slice of the city’s growing urban auto per-minute rental pie.

Just last month, Daimler decided to deploy the largest fleet of its Car2go short-term rental service program, turning a blind eye to BMW’s own DriveNow two-to-one service. It’s all part of a grand scheme to lure in not only drivers in Berlin but in urban regions across Europe in the midst of fading interest in car ownership.

Car2go chief Robert Henrich shares that “it’s natural that competition shows up. It shows that we have the right business idea. Our intention is clearly to remain the leader.”

Both Daimler and BMW are making their move to win over customers who are looking for per-minute car rentals as car-sharing membership is expected to balloon up to around 15 million people nine years from now.

Watcha’ think folks? Would you pay 29 cents a minute to drive around Berlin in a Smart car?

Mercedes-Benz Released New Video of the C63 AMG Black Series Coupe in Action

In a video made by Chris Harris of Autoblog, he showed the C63 AMG Black Series being lined up against the BMW M3 GTS and Porsche 911 GT3 RS, and although it didn’t win against the Porsche, the previous clip did show that the C63 is one mean machine.

To further prove its power, Mercedes-Benz released a new video where the vicious monster was strolling for a short time before it went on track and roared its V8 6.2L engine.

Aside from its engine that gives out 510HP, the car is also known to have a great exterior that is emphasized by the generous LED treatment it has. Inside, you will never go wrong too, as it also has excellent upholstery, a new fiber called Dinamica and all the technological advancements a vehicle could offer. This video though, will only make you drool because of its speed and manliness, which is something you should surely watch.

Groundbreaking for Mercedes-Benz/Infiniti Tennessee Plant

We’ve known about the partnership between Daimler and Renault – Nissan for some time now, but it is only today that we get very concrete reminders of the cooperation that involves engine- and technology-sharing between the automakers—the two have just concluded the groundbreaking for a new engine-manufacturing plant in Decherd, Tennessee.

While there have been no details as to exactly which engines will be produced in the Tennessee plant, it has been disclosed that these would likely be four-cylinder engines that would be accessible to both automakers, perhaps something similar to the 1.8-liter turbo used in the current C250. Of course, three-cylinders for use in Mercedes-Benz vehicles and 6-cylinders for use in Infiniti vehicles aren’t out of the question. According to Nissan, the plant’s capacity is around 250,000 engines annually.

It should take around two years for the automakers to finish building this engine plant in Tennessee and get it to full operational status. There is tremendous potential in this partnership, and many—including us—are expecting that we have yet to see the biggest thing to come out of the Nissan/Daimler deal. Stick around and we’ll surely bring you more news on this when it happens.
