[F1] Nico Rosberg Wins British Grand Prix for Mercedes, Hamilton P4

It was an important race for the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team, and Nico Rosberg helped ensure that they would finish in style. Rosberg overcame some pretty dangerous situations on the track to take the win at the 2013 British Grand Prix. This is the second win in three races for the German driver. Meanwhile, teammate Lewis Hamilton could not hang on to his pole position after a rear tire explosion. Despite the problems, Hamilton managed to recover enough to finish in P4, salvaging some valuable championship points despite not being able to finish on the podium even when he thought the team was certainly on track and in great… Continue Reading »

[F1] Rosberg Tops Practice Two of British GP

As conditions got better in the afternoon, the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team managed to get in more runs, and with good pace at that, to settle into the 2013 British Grand Prix. Nico Rosberg topped the time sheets in practice two with 1:32.248, while Lewis Hamilton’s pace (1:32.911) was good for fifth. The team only managed a combined 8 laps in the rained-upon morning practice, of which Rosberg accounted for 3 (posting no time) and Hamilton had 5 laps, posting a time that was fourth-best (1:55.458). Rosberg noted that the MGP W02 was still quite quick, although the team is still not in top form when taking race speed… Continue Reading »

[F1] 2013 British Grand Prix Preview

For the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team, it’s time to put TireGate (or TyreGate) in the rear-view mirror and focus on the upcoming races. However, the battle is still pretty much an uphill one, despite the fact that the team has improved dramatically in previous races. This weekend, it’s on to Silverstone for the 2013 British Grand Prix. A good 52 laps around Silverstone circuit should offer a lot of entertainment for fans, especially as competition heats up. You have Mercedes going out hard to prove that their win two races ago was no fluke. They did have Lewis Hamilton finish in the podium at Canada, but a better result… Continue Reading »

Lewis Hamilton has Literal Flying Lap with RAF Red Arrows

Who says you can’t mix business with pleasure? Sometimes, though, F1 drivers have way better perks than most of us. Take Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 driver Lewis Hamilton, for instance. He just spent time with David Coulthard and the RAF Red Arrows last Friday, a side event leading up to this weekend’s British GP. Hamilton and Coulthard hopped onto a Hawk T1 jet, going through some loops and rolls during their 30-minute flight in a three-ship formation. They were subject to up to 4.5G’s of force, although they do encounter similar forces during every F1 stint. After that run on the RAF Aerobatic Team jets, Hamilton then took his MGP… Continue Reading »

[F1] Despite Rivals’ Comments, Hamilton Says Test Ban Hurts

With the FIA International Tribunal dropping the hammer and banning the Mercedes F1 team from the 3-day young driver test in Silverstone, rival teams have questioned and mocked the fairly lenient decision. Mercedes AMG Petronas driver Lewis Hamilton, however, believes otherwise. The Mercedes newcomer agreed with the sentiment of team principal Ross Brawn that being banned from the test is definitely going to hurt. Hamilton cited the various upgrades and other plans that the team had been looking forward to trying out during that testing period. “That test is quite an important test for the year,” said Hamilton. “It’s the only test, really.” Red Bull’s Christian Horner spoke out on… Continue Reading »

[F1] International Tribunal Suspends Mercedes for 2013 Young Driver Test

The FIA’s International Tribunal has handed down its decision: both the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team and tire-supplier Pirelli were found in breach of the regulations, and the team has been suspended for this year’s 3-day young driver training test. In a statement released through its official website, the team says that it acknowledges and accepts the decision as well as the penalties that go with it. The Tribunal did say it found the team acting in good faith all throughout the process and did not really intend to get unfair advantage through the tests. However, the other teams were not given the same opportunity to test, which was what… Continue Reading »

[F1] Mercedes Maintains Team Broke no Regulations; Verdict on Friday

The FIA Tribunal had convened and met face-to-face with the key people involved in the tire-test controversy that the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team and Pirelli have found themselves embroiled in. The proceedings finished late Thursday afternoon, so there won’t be a verdict until sometime on Friday. The Mercedes team, represented by team principal Ross Brawn, maintained that it did not break any of the sporting regulations that govern Formula One. However, according to the FIA, the aforementioned parties could have ‘contravened’ the International Sporting Code, particularly Article 151c that defines a breach as: Any fraudulent conduct or any act prejudicial to the interests of any competition or to the… Continue Reading »
