If you’ve been bored to death by the dominance of Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 in the past couple of years, don’t worry. Mercedes AMG Petronas Formula One Team showed no signs of slowing down. The team continued to display its excellent form during the recent F1 practice. Nico Rosberg in particular logged the fasted pace in the latest pre-season test. According to BBC Sport, the Mercedes driver set a record of 1:23.022 in the event using only soft tires. The German’s time was 0.207 seconds faster than the one next to him who happened to be Valtteri Bottas of Williams at 1:23.229. McLaren showed improvement too. On Day 2 of Formula 1 testing, which is being held in Barcelona, saw the introduction of an innovative component by Mercedes-Benz on the new Mercedes-AMG F1 W07, as shown on a report from worldcarfans.com. The innovative component is a new serrated bargeboard concept. The full-length serrated bargeboards are positioned on the strakes, extending in front of the bargeboards and are connected to the floor. The new bargeboards have a more aggressive appearance compared to the ones used by teams in the past. Both Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 drivers were active on track at the last day of the first round of testing in Barcelona, with Lewis Hamilton completing 99 laps in the morning and Nico Rosberg taking his turn for 86 laps after the lunch break as the team tries to learn more about the F1 W07 Hybrid.
The Mercedes-Benz F1 W07 Hybrid of Mercedes AMG Petronas made its debut as of February 22. After that it was tested in the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The car was driven by reigning and three-time Formula One Drivers’ Champion Lewis Hamilton. The testing opened at 9:00 AM until everyone took a break at 1:00 PM. Then the event resumed and went on up to 6:00 PM. Hamilton racked 66 laps during the first half of the testing. Then he proceeded to finish 90 more laps until the end of the afternoon session.
