Mercedes slips in qualifying for 2014 Austrian GP

Is Mercedes AMG Petronas loosening its erstwhile ironclad grip on the 2014 Formula One season? A car apart from the Silver Arrows won at the last race, and now we see the first guy outside of Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton to take a pole position this Formula One season. Williams’ Felipe Massa took the  first spot on the grid at the 2014 Austrian Grand Prix, while teammate Valtteri Bottas assured a front-row lockout. Rosberg had to settle for P3, while Hamilton will start at the ninth position on the grid once the Austrian GP gets underway. Hamilton spun at Turn 2 in his second run in Q3, which also sent… Continue Reading »

Michael Schumacher is Now Out of Coma

Michael Schumacher, the seven-time Formula One World Champion, is now “out of coma” and has been transferred to another hospital for recovery. According to CNN, Schumacher will be transferred from the hospital in Grenoble, France, where was admitted last year following a near-death skiing accident, to a university health facility in Lausanne, Switzerland. The new place where the former-F1 champ would be housed will provide him with the necessary treatment needed for his recovery. “Michael left… to continue his long phase of rehabilitation,” said Sabine Kehm, the manager of the multi-time champion. Officials at the university hospital where Schumacher was transferred confirmed that the former Scuderia Ferrari Marlboro and Mercedes AMG Petronas… Continue Reading »

Rosberg settles for Second Place as Ricciardo wins Canadian GP

It took seven Grands Prix before anyone else was able to claim a victory, and Red Bull’s Daniel Ricciardo was as good a bet as any to break the Mercedes AMG Petronas win streak. Ricciardo claimed his maiden GP win by overtaking the struggling Mercedes of Nico Rosberg with only three laps remaining in the 2014 Canadian Grand Prix, and the Australian driver never looked back. The two Mercedes cars pushed hard against each other as their rivalry continues to heat up. However, it looks like the competition is getting the better of their cars. Rosberg nursed a rear-brake problem, which slowed his car down and allowed Ricciardo to get past him, although kudos to him for still… Continue Reading »

Rosberg takes pole at Canadian GP in another Mercedes front-row lockout

Mercedes AMG Petronas is the clear frontrunner in the drivers standings, and another front-row lockout should go a long way toward padding its 141-point lead over Red Bull Racing some more. Nico Rosberg won pole position over teammate Lewis Hamilton, making it a total of seven pole positions for Mercedes in as many races so far in the 2014 Formula 1 season. The pole puts the Rosberg-Hamilton head-to-head matchup at 3 wins to 4 in qualifying, although Rosberg is still ahead in the drivers’ standings. The German driver has 122 points to Hamilton’s 118. The next guy? Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso at a distant 61 points. Such has been Mercedes’ dominance in this transitional season…. Continue Reading »

The Mercedes Era is Coming in F1

Mercedes AMG Petronas has proven critics wrong time and time again this season as it continuously ended each race in a one-two finish. The only exception of this is in Australia. But still, it was a Nico Rosberg who reached the finish line first during the kickoff race of the 2014 Formula One season. Lately, pundits forecasted that Monaco was the best track to derail the onslaught of team Mercedes because of its unpredictability over the years. However, it was another one-two finish from Mercedes that stopped all hopes of the other competitors and silenced its doubters. In the recent interview of the team boss Toto Wolff with Mirror, he said… Continue Reading »

Hamilton Lets Go of Frustration, Compares Mercedes Team to McLaren

It’s no secret that there is an animosity between Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg lately, which escalated when the German took the escape route in the final lap of the qualifying race in Monaco. The incident triggered yellow flags, which slowed down the rest of the field and cost the Briton his pole position. The pole position then provided Rosberg the advantage that eventually led his victory at the Monaco Grand Prix. The win also enabled the son of Keke Rosberg to snatch back the first position in the overall ranking of the drivers in Formula One. However, based on interviews, it is only Hamilton who is having issues with… Continue Reading »

Rosberg Wins in Monaco Grand Prix and Gets Back Number One Position

Following a rather controversial qualifying race leading to Monaco Grand Prix, Nico Rosberg reached the checkered flag first this Sunday’s race. His victory allowed him to get back his number-one position in the Formula One drivers’ standings, which was temporarily taken away by his teammate Lewis Hamilton in Spain. The German was able to outlast his Briton teammate by 9.2 seconds as he maintained his advantage over his pole position. It should be noted as well that Hamilton has been complaining about his partially impaired vision during the race that was apparently caused by a dirt in his eye. The two W05 cars were nearly inseparable during the early stages… Continue Reading »
