Daimler, parent company of Mercedes-Benz, and Chinese car and battery maker BYD Co. have agreed to expand their electric vehicle partnership by each investing an additional sum of around $69 million dollars in the Shenzhen BYD Daimler New Energy Technology Co., the two companies’ 2011 joint venture that makes EVs under the Denza brand. The investment is intended to aggressively come up with clean-energy automobiles, and this should jumpstart the joint venture’s efforts to bring finalized products to market at the soonest possible time. This is in line with BYD’s targets of 6,000 cars and 2,000 buses — all of the electric variety — in 2013. These numbers are a step up… Continue Reading »

Seen recently on the Mercedes stand at the 2012 Paris Motor Show was the Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric drive. This pure electric car is powered by a lithium-ion battery co-developed with Tesla. Range is touted to be 125 miles, with a top speed of 93 mph. Apparently, the Electric Drive will be the only version of the Mercedes-Benz B-Class that will be made available in America. This, despite the brisk sales of more conventionally-powered variants elsewhere. It seems too that Mercedes-Benz intends to call its EVs Electric Drive henceforth, as a way to associate premium electric vehicles with the Mercedes brand. The introduction of the B-Class Electric Drive to the U.S…. Continue Reading »

We just can’t get enough of the SLS AMG Electric Drive, which is why we are continuing our coverage of the production ready electric SLS AMG. This time, we are showing you driving footage. Before you start playing the video, make sure your speakers are turned all the way up, not because of the amazing roar, but because you won’t hear anything, the is literally almost no sound. That is probably the only thing I would change on the new SLS AMG ED. How about installing some external speakers and download some crazy engine/motor sound.
Making an appearance at the Paris 2012 show is this electric fortwo from Brabus. Clad in an electrifying green and black color scheme, this fortwo is a standout from the special edition Smart cars we’ve been seeing. As befits a Brabus creation, this little commuter has the makings of a pocket rocket with a peak power output of 82 horsepower. And with electric motors providing full torque from 0 rpm, this little car is a perfect machine for zipping through the urban jungle. No Brabus creation would be complete without an aggressive-looking body kit and here, the fortwo from this premiere Mercedes tuner does not disappoint. A Brabus spoiler with… Continue Reading »
At this year’s Paris Auto Show, Mercedes-Benz is giving us a first look at the production ready SLS AMG Electric Drive. It’s certainly no wimpy electric car though; this fully fledged AMG supercar has 740 horsepower and will launch itself from 0 to 60mph in less than 4 seconds. It’s also got a ridiculous 737lb/f of torque. These statistics will make the SLS the fastest and most powerful production electric car in the world, though not the fastest SLS. Top speed will be, of course, limited to 155mph, but Mercedes-Benz anticipates that this will be reached easily.

This EV concept builds on the B-Class driving experience, enhancing the focus on family use and everyday transportation. The motor provides the vehicle with a range of 200 kilometers. Driving dynamics are superb thanks to the 310 Nm of torque. In addition, the battery is chargeable using any 230V power outlet. It also has rapid-charging functionality through high-voltage (400V) terminals…. Continue Reading »
