Britain’s Network Rail to Use Mercedes-Benz Vito E-CELL as Staff Shuttle

British rail infrastructure operator Network Rail has just ordered a couple of Mercedes-Benz Vito 7-seater minibuses that will serve as the shuttle for its concierge team from its Westwood Leadership Development Centre, located on the outskirts of Coventry, to the Tile Hill station and back. That journey will be made numerous times daily, and the efficiency of the electric vans will definitely provide an advantage. Mercedes-Benz Citaro FuelCELL Hybrid Buses Shuttle Service At KIT

The Karlsruhe Institute of Technology commissioned a hydrogen filling station on the Campus North, which is a requirement in the introduction of mobile fuel-cell technology. The station will service a pair of Mercedes-Benz Citaro FuelCELL Hybrid buses. The fuel-cell buses will provide a shuttle service to employees and students at the KIT Campus North, the KIT Campus South and the KIT Campus East. Present in the June 11 inauguration of the station was the Mercedes-Benz Buses Region West Sales Head, Ulrich Piotrowski. The inauguration also officially launched the shuttle service of KIT. Daimler Looking into Sale of Li-Tec Battery Joint Venture

Daimler AG together with partner Evonik Industries AG are considering selling Li-Tec Battery GmbH, a joint venture that isn’t really very profitable. The companies’ efforts to find another owner to join up have been in vain, which is why it is now considering a sale. Li-Tec Battery, based in Dresden and formed in 2008, makes Li-Ion battery cells meant for use in automobiles as well as other industrial applications. The company develops and makes its own batteries. Mercedes-Benz Electric Commercial Vehicle Discontinued

The low demand for electric cargo vans that can go as fast as 50mph may not validate full production of such a vehicle, according to Mercedes-Benz. The luxury car manufacturer made this revelation after its limited release of the Vito E-Cell electric commercial vehicle in the European market. The release of the vehicle was simply to evaluate its feasibility in the market. Due to the low demand, the project may be discontinued, according to Volker Mornhinweg, the head of the van division of Mercedes-Benz. The Vito E-Cell vehicle can carry loads reaching 1,873 lbs. Tesla Supplies Motor for US-bound B-Class Electric Drive

Mercedes-Benz has enlisted the aid of Tesla Motors, the electric car and electric powertrain designer and manufacturer based in Silicon Valley, to provide the 135-horsepower electric motor of the all-new Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive, which was announced at the New York Auto Show this past week. The car is expected to be out on the US market sometime in early 2014.
