V12 Mercedes GL Released – By Tuner MKB

mercedes gl v12 engine swap by mkb medium 6 597x395 V12 Mercedes GL Released By Tuner MKB
Wanting a V12 Mercedes GL but can’t wait for the 2012 upgrade that Mercedes says will include the 12 cylinder? Well, your wait is over, as German tuner MKB is now offering a swap that will turn your GL into a V12-powered beastie.

The package MKB is offering puts the smooth running engine into your GL for a mere 294,000 dollars, and change. It will also need 6 months to do the conversion, starting with you entrusting your GL500 to them. Yes, that almost 300K conversion fee doesn’t include the vehicle. In return, you’ll get a massive engine that’s been tweaked to almost 670 horsepower with a torque output of 885 lb-ft. Six-piston brake calipers with ceramic rotors are included to ensure safe and reliable stopping power.

0-60 can now be hit in 4.4 seconds, on to a top speed of 170 mph. One wonders at the timing of this release, because it might make better sense to just wait for a possible AMG version, with V12, if the waiting period will be 6 months anyway.

2012 GL63 AMG Spied During Testing

It’s probably because of monsters like these that Mercedes is striving to lift its CAFE numbers with other models. Caught testing in Sweden is Mercedes’, or rather AMG’s GL63 SUV. Based on a modified ML platform, the new model’s nose , though heavily camouflaged, looks to have similiarities to the current E-Class.  As an AMG variant, expect the huge bumper to have gaping air scoops, as well as a quad exhaust out back. That free breathing equipment should produce a sound that would be as menacing as its looks.

Although the exact standard safety and luxury features aren’t known yet, what we can expect is the biturbo V8 under the hood, which is the mainstay of the high performance vehicles being manufactured by Mercedes. In its current iteration, this 5.5-liter mill produces 540 horsepower and 590 lb-ft of torque. That’s more than enough grunt to propel this heavy beast to twice or thrice the legal speed limits.

As a 2012 model, the GL63 AMG should be in showrooms early next year.

Carlsson Teases CGL45 Ahead Of Frankfurt Show

carlsson preview 597x397 Carlsson Teases CGL45 Ahead Of Frankfurt ShowThe upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show is traditionally a venue where we see various manufacturer’s concepts, soon-to-be-released models and tuner cars. A perennial presence, Carlsson, is even now releasing images of its version of the Mercedes GL Grand Edition which it’s dubbed the CGL45.

As befits this tuner’s reputation, both styling and performance are upgraded. Starting with the aesthetics, Carlsson has added wider wheel arches, a front spoiler and lip and rear skirt. These aren’t all styling exercises, because these aero pieces have all been refined in a wind tunnel. Daytime running lights complement a chrome radiator grill which features the tuner’s logo, on which a leaping horse is etched. 22-inch wheels sporting Vredestein tires and a stainless steel exhaust with quad oval tips round out the exterior upgrades. For the CGL’s interior, Carlsson has used a combination of high quality nappa leather, Alcantara, wood and stainless steel. Aluminum pedals, a signed plaque on the center console, headrests embossed with the Carlsson logo and illuminated door sills lend a distinctive touch to the already luxurious stock interior.

Best of all, the GL’s 3-liter 6 has been modified to produce 310 horsepower, from the factory model’s 265 horsepower. Torque is now at 700 Nm, which is 80 more than the engine’s original output. All these upgrades should make an interesting addition to Carlsson’s stand at the Frankfurt Show, where one’s wares have to really stand out to be noticed.

Mercedes Benz GLS against BMW x6 1024x749 Mercedes Benz GLS Will Compete with X6 After BMW sold 120,000 units of X6 since it launch in 2009, Mercedes-Benz is planning on making a model that will compete directly with it, which will be called Mercedes-Benz GLS.

The SUV, will take the some designs from the CLS four-door. Despite the details being on hold, an insider revealed to Auto Evolution that it could have the V6 engine that will perform at 306HP and the V8 with 435HP, these will be for the petrol version. Diesel versions could have 3.0L diesel or a hybrid oil-burner also on the E3000 model that will be presented in the Frankfurt Motor Show.

Mercedes-Benz GLS is set to be launched on 2014 after a company insider said last week, “After closely monitoring sales trends, we’ve concluded there is potential for an additional off-road model with a more sporting emphasis than the new M-class.”
