Wanting a V12 Mercedes GL but can’t wait for the 2012 upgrade that Mercedes says will include the 12 cylinder? Well, your wait is over, as German tuner MKB is now offering a swap that will turn your GL into a V12-powered beastie.
The package MKB is offering puts the smooth running engine into your GL for a mere 294,000 dollars, and change. It will also need 6 months to do the conversion, starting with you entrusting your GL500 to them. Yes, that almost 300K conversion fee doesn’t include the vehicle. In return, you’ll get a massive engine that’s been tweaked to almost 670 horsepower with a torque output of 885 lb-ft. Six-piston brake calipers with ceramic rotors are included to ensure safe and reliable stopping power.
0-60 can now be hit in 4.4 seconds, on to a top speed of 170 mph. One wonders at the timing of this release, because it might make better sense to just wait for a possible AMG version, with V12, if the waiting period will be 6 months anyway.

The upcoming Frankfurt Auto Show is traditionally a venue where we see various manufacturer’s concepts, soon-to-be-released models and tuner cars. A perennial presence, Carlsson, is even now releasing images of its version of the Mercedes GL Grand Edition which it’s dubbed the CGL45.
