Prior Design heats things up with the E-Class Coupe

Prior Design is one of those unique tuners out there which stand out by their tuning principle. That is, to keep things on the outside simple and make big things happen under the hood. With that said, here’s what Prior Design has been up to lately in its workshop – a souped version of the Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe. It’s a follow up to the tuning package the company released for the very same model back in December of 2010.

This time around, they’ve added a set of 20-inch matte gold wheels that just take the cake in terms of aggressiveness. With a stance lower than base form by 35mm, this creation just screams performance upon first sight especially with its new aerodynamic body kit. The exterior packaged consists of a stylized E63 front bumper, side skirts, a diffuser on its rear bumper, four tailpipes that are arranged in AMG fashion, and a trunk lid spoiler made of carbon fiber. Heck, you’d think this mule came straight from AMG’s workshop.

Here comes the juicy part. The engine has been tweaked to deliver a plus of 74 horsepower from stock configuration. Clients can even choose between the classic 4-tailpipe AMG arrangement or a single tail pipe on the left. Well, that’s if you’re street enough to go custom on a E-Class Coupe.

Revozport Introduces E-Class Body Kit

Asian tuner entrant Revozport has set its sights on the E-Class Mercedes with a body modification kit made from carbon fiber. This kit was designed for the W207 E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet. According to the company, “The aggressive but yet subtle design is to bring out the full character of the E Coupe and giving its owners the unique look but not looking like a hooligan”.

Using the Rezonance name, the kit includes a front bumper with LED daytime running lights, a splitter with two settings, a carbon kevlar hood, side skirts, a trunk spoiler, roof spoiler and a rear diffuser panel with LED reverse and fog lights copied from the E-Class’ big brother, the SLS AMG. Revozport claims that the hood gives an 8 kilogram reduction in weight.

Revozport aims to have the kit released by the first week of March and distributed worldwide within the month. It must be said that the pictures released by the company show a nice integration of the kit with the W207 E-Class and that they do not look like cheap ripoffs. Additionally, Revozport also produces carbon fiber front grilles, mirror covers, chrome insert covers for the trunk and other accessories for other vehicles.

The E-Class Coupe Black Desire by Prior Design

German tuner Prior Design has come up with a stunner, and it is called the Black Desire. Based on the Mercedes E-Class Coupe, this new tuning package has a clear focus: that’s to make this black beauty so much more elegant and awesome in the looks department.

Prospective buyers get an elegant black paint scheme accented by some metallic trim that frames the grille area and on the window surrounds, rear bumper and side strips. The familiar Mercedes emblem on the grille is swapped out for the Prior Design logo up front.

Up front, there’s a new bumper that features a pronounced spoiler lip and some side vents as well. The overall theme for the body modifications is primarily the presence of sharp edges, which can be found in the side skirts. Out the back, there’s a boot lip, a roof spoiler, and three fins. Optional trim includes carbon fiber finishes for these enhancements.

The Black Desire also comes with special Prior GT 20-inchers in place of the standard Benz wheels, and buyers can choose from silver, gloss black and matte black for the wheel finish. There’s also a 4-tip exhaust system made from durable stainless steel.

While visuals are clearly the priority in this package, buyers can also opt for power enhancements. Getting the performance package on the Black Desire can increase its power output by a max 75 hp and should considerably improve speed and handling thanks to 35mm lowering.

The tuner also announced that the Black Desire package is applicable to the Convertible trim of the E-Class.

Update on the next-generation C-Class

So yeah, the next C-Class will come in both coupe and convertible variants. In the gallery below, you’ll even get to peek at its interior. But how will the next C-Class Coupe fare against the two-door E-Class. Since the E-Class similarly is based on the current C-Class platform, it’ll be fun to see which of the two will be larger and performance-wise, which will be a lot more tempting to drive.

A lot of questions are hanging on these two vehicle lineups, questions which will hopefully get some answers from the up-and-coming Paris Motor Show in France. Surely, you guys are wondering what the price tag will be and how much they will differ for the different C-Class variants, namely the Coupe, Cabrio and Sedan. A bigger question it seems is whether the Coupe will be sharing platforms with the Sedan.

Oh well, perhaps only time will tell. One thing’s for sure, though—everyone, including us, is waiting for word on whether there will be a C63 Coupe. That, we got to see. As far as AMG is concerned, they’ve never actually let their loyal clients down, whatever new model rolls out of Mercedes-Benz’s production lines.

Next target: GAZ Gorky Automobile Plant in Russia

There aren’t so many fans of Russian made cars, perhaps not even in Russia. Still, there is one automotive manufacturer in the country that’s getting a lot of attention. GAZ, who currently manufacturers the Volga Siber at the Gorky Automobile plant (insert Wind of Change chorus here), is getting wooed by a lot of investors wanting to tap into the Russian market. Yep, you guessed it—Mercedes-Benz’s parent company Daimler wants in. And the company will stop at nothing to get the plant to producing the E-Class. And with good reason too.

The Volga Siber is actually based on the Chrysler Sebring platform. As true-blooded Mercedes-Benz fans (you know you are), you should know that there was a time when Daimler and Chrysler were partners. So, why not upgrade the Volga Siber (or its platform) to the E-Class instead? Makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?

If Daimler and Mercedes-Benz successfully gets their hands on the plant, it will be a big blow to fellow German rival BMW, which has already made its presence felt in Russia. It’s all about who takes the biggest slice of cake, and Mercedes-Benz won’t settle for anything less than the largest.

The company has a lot of rival suitors, though. Indian company Tata motors is just one of them. There’s also General Motors putting the pressure on Tata. It’s worth noting the GAZ Chairman Bo Anderson was once head of worldwide purchasing for GM. Small world, isn’t it? Daimler needs to spend quite a lot to get the wind of change in its favor.
