Carlsson is at it again. For those of you who aren’t all too impressed with what the base Mercedes-Benz CLS 350 does, let us introduce you to the version the German tuner has come up with.

The Carlsson Tuning kit for the CLS 350 features some subtle tweaks to the exterior, providing a customized touch and some added points for good looks. There are a bunch of aerodynamic enhancements for the exterior, from the front’s updated grille and new chin spoiler to the rear’s new diffuser that’s integrated into the exhaust.

There are some air outlet gills out on the side as well. The exterior cosmetic changes include LED fog lights that match the daytime LEDs, a new bulgy hood and some of Carlsson’s drool-worthy 20-inch alloy wheels. The interior also receives some bonuses, such as Alcantara leather accented by brushed aluminum.

On top of those, this Carlsson upgrade also features performance enhancements. The CK35 tuning kit, which offers boosts in power and torque output, has been applied to the CLS 350 CGI petrol power plant as well as the CLS 350 CDI diesel engine. This upgrade should improve the acceleration times by quite a bit, from 6.1 to 5.9 seconds on the CGI and from 6.2 to 5.9 seconds on the CDI.

The icing on the cake? Both trims still retain Euro 5 emissions qualifications.

1st Generation CLS Shows Some Fangs

first generation mercedes cls 1st Generation CLS Shows Some FangsThe second generation of the Mercedes-Benz CLS was introduced at this year’s Paris Motor Show after which orders for the luxury 4-door were entertained. The first-generation CLS will not be easily forgotten, however, as this 4-door coupe was one of the vehicles responsible for the increased popularity of this segment.

Renowned German tuning house Carlsson, a tuner specializing in Mercedes-Benz vehicles, developed a limited edition model based on the Mercedes CL 65 AMG and renamed it as the Carlsson CK65. From that lofty base, Platinum Motorsport, an American aftermarket company, upgraded this already remarkable Carlsson CK65, performing a few more modifications to put a stamp of their own. Without going to extreme styles, the company added a Carlsson aerodynamic kit that enhances the menacing sportiness of the car.

The front bumper add-on element comes with additional air intakes, as well as custom headlights that use a black theme. New side skirts combining air intakes for the rear wheels have been installed, which continues to the rear as an apron and a diffuser. Also installed were new fenders with an enhanced appearance combining air vents for the front wheels. A spoiler for the rear decklid enhances the sweeping look of the vehicle. The entire look is finished with a set of 21-inch Agetro W150 wheels shod with ultra-low profile tires. This first-gen CLS is still definitely a looker, even with its 2nd generation replacement on the horizon.

New CLS 63 AMG Commercial to Premiere in January

As it nears its release in January 2011, the new Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG is set for a big splash in terms of advertising, and the latest exposure of the upcoming executive sedan will be in a commercial set to premiere sometime around the end of January.

In the commercial, the CLS 63 AMG was let loose out on the hot desert dunes of Las Vegas, Nevada. You’ll also be able to see Robert Baker, the brand ambassador for AMG and founder of Logical Golf, sitting right where most of us probably want to be: behind the wheel of the CLS 63 AMG.

The late January premiere of the CLS 63 AMG’s commercial will coincide with Mercedes-Benz’ 125th year celebration of the motor car—one and one-quarter centuries since Carl Benz filed a patent for a “vehicle with a gas engine drive.”

Below, you’ll find some shots behind the scenes of the commercial’s shoot. Those are some pretty nifty camera setups near the rear of the car. Based on these, we’ll be seeing some close-ups and stunning aerial shots of the car. We’ll see how Mercedes-Benz makes the commercial for the CLS 63 AMG stand out from among the rest of the car commercials.

Monochromatic imagery is the theme for Mercedes-Benz’s fashion campaign for the Autumn/Winter 2011 season. Supermodel Karolina Kurkova has been selected to partner with the Mercedes-Benz CLS in the campaign. Entitled “Captivated”, Mercedes-Benz chose acclaimed fashion photographer Craig McDean and British creative director David James to create the spectacular fashion visual. The pair were tasked to transform the dynamic, athletic design of the new CLS into a powerful yet feminine fashion image.

Karolina Kurkova says that the CLS is “a beautifully smooth and luxurious car that immediately appealed to me. It has these fascinating contours that I wanted to convey with my body language during the shooting. I can imagine myself behind the wheel of the Mercedes-Benz CLS. It fits my style. Since I recently got my driving license, I need to gain more experience driving. And I’m sure that would be great fun with the new CLS.”

The visual will launch at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin in January 2011. With “Captivated”, Mercedes-Benz will maintain their reputation for producing visionary fashion campaigns. Actively involved in multiple fashion events in over thirty countires, Mercedes-Benz is present in established fashion weeks in Berlin, New York, London, Milan and Paris.

Next up, the CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake Concept

It’s only been two weeks, and already Mercedes-Benz has surprised fans with two brand new CLS variants, namely the CLS63 AMG plus the CLS Shooting Brake Concept. Now, there’s news of another one that the company is planning to put forth, and we’re guessing you’ve already guessed what it is. That’s right—the CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake. So you’ve got an AMG powered CLS, and a Shooting Brake Concept, so why not an AMG Shooting Brake Concept. Makes perfect sense, doesn’t it?

This proposed variant of the CLS will inherit all the powerpacked features of its sedan sibling and will likely see production in 2012. So you can expect no less than an M157 5.5-liter twin turbo V8 to be sitting under its hood, ready to pounce at any road with 518-550hp and 590lb-ft torque. So we’re thinking you probably want to know if the Shooting Brake will hit Uncle Sam’s dealerships. We’re clueless right now, but if it does, don’t expect the AMG version to follow anytime sooner than 2013.

Here’s a little bit more insider stuff… AMG says you shouldn’t place your bets on diesel performance models from their workshops. That’s a long way off. The tuner is dedicated to working with gasoline engines with their firm belief that anything a diesel can do, gasoline can do better.
