C63 Estate Shows Off Muscle At Spa

Notwithstanding Mercedes’ current thrust towards establishing a foothold in the mindset of the younger generations, what would an avid car guy turn to when he’s got a family and their stuff to haul around? Well, one doesn’t have to go further than Mercedes’ own C63 AMG Estate. As this video amply shows, the C63 AMG Estate can do double (triple?) duty as a family hauler, an occasional stoplight grand prix weapon and even a track special.

This particular C63 AMG Estate was shot at Spa Francorchamps, one of the world’s greatest tracks. To the delight of the guy who shot the clip and to all of us who see it, the owner was more than willing to let the world hear what his car sounds like, and what young enthusiasts can aspire to when family responsibilities get in the way of our hooning days.

Mercedes Teases New, Fresher Interior

Brought to our attention by regular reader Jay, here’s a teaser video that can be found in Mercedes-Benz’s official YouTube channel on design fundamentals. Forget brand names, designer Luke Leitch says. He goes on to describe what he feels are what you should look for in a design.

Curiously, the video doesn’t show a car or a detail but a seat, done with highlights of lime green. Definitely not a color normally associated with factory cars from the German automaker. The end of the video shows the phrase, “do you dare challenge your perception?” Well, Mercedes may be preparing us for something truly different, as we shall see with the release of a series of smaller cars like the CLC and that are targetted towards a younger generation. In going after that market, Mercedes does indeed need to present itself in fresher ways, and we can only wait with anticipation on what this 125-year old carmaker will come up with.

C63 Racer Competes Apart From DTM

Providing a different spectacle for us to watch is this C63 AMG race car that competes not in the DTM but in the International Superstars V8 Series. Due to its unrestriced exhausts, the sound of the V8 engine is much louder, but for those of you who have heard the C63 AMG at full chat, the sound is very familiar.

You’ll also notice that the bodywork is much simpler compared to the C63s that compete in the DTM. Apart from the aggressive sound of the engine and exhaust, there is no mistaking that this is a fully-fledged race car, from it huge rear wing and bulbous flares that cover those wide racing tires. Knowing that C63s are present, Mercedes fans will now probably check out this series, if only to see the C63s in action.

Vorsteiner Body Kit For The C63 AMG

In case the C63 AMG, as it comes from the factory, is not distinctive enough for you, Vorsteiner has come up with a body kit for the little animal that has caused a stir among more than a few enthusiasts. With its 6.3-liter V8 pushing out 450 horsepower, it’s more than a match for its nearest competitors. Small wonder then that the car sold out in quite a few countries within weeks of its announcement.

Wisely, Vorsteiner chose to stick with what it knows best, instead of fooling around with the powertrain package. Vorsteiner’s carbon fiber expertise has been applied to a kit that replaces the front spoiler, rear diffuser, rear spoiler and door sills. Vorsteiner also throws in its Vorsteiner C63 Floor Mats as a bonus. Buyers may opt to complete the package with their recommended 19- or 20-inch wheels. Or come up with their own choice. Whatever the finishing touch is in terms of wheels, the final product looks absolutely stunning.

Continuing with their tradition of providing young talent with a competitive stepping stone to world-class competition, Mercedes has announced a trio of drivers who will compete as members of the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team. Using a DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupé as their platform, drivers Roberto Merhi (Spain, 20, Junge Sterne Mercedes AMG C-Coupé, Persson Motorsport), Christian Vietoris (Germany, 23, Mercedes-Benz Bank AMG C-Coupé, HWA) and Robert Wickens (Canada, 22, stern Mercedes AMG C-Coupé, Mücke Motorsport) will together be contesting the world’s most popular touring car series.

As a matter of record, the Mercedes-Benz Junior Team of the 90s featured Michael Schumacher, Heinz-Harald Frentzen and Karl Wendlinger. At present, eight out of 24 F1 drivers in 2012 and five out of nine Mercedes-Benz DTM drivers in 2011 previously competed in Formula 3 in a Mercedes-powered car. With this record, it’s clear that being selected to be a member of the Mercedes Junior Team is an affirmation of a driver’s talent and is a huge step towards the pinnacle of motorsports competition.
