Insider Info: C63 AMG Coupe Black Series to get 507 HP

c63amgcoupe black series 597x234 Insider Info: C63 AMG Coupe Black Series to get 507 HP
We’ve received exclusive information regarding the upcoming Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Coupe Black Series from one of our insiders. The email that came in this morning informed us that the upcoming Black Series version of the C63 AMG Coupe will be powered by the current 6.2l V8 with some mods and produce 507 HP (just like the CLK63 AMG Black Series). The email suggest that buyers will have few customization options available when making their orders. Some of the add-ons include an optional rear spoiler that customers can order as well as the choice to include a rear seat, since the standard factory option won’t have it. Buyers will also have the choice between 5 basic colors – our guess is black, white, red, silver, and maybe charcoal gray? Just like with all the previous Black Series models, this will be a very limited production run, so don’t expect more than a few hundred.

As usual with the Black Series models, the car will be much lower and wider than the “ordinary” AMG version of the C63 Coupe. It will also have a custom body kit, just like with the CLK Black Series, which will help the Black Series differentiate itself from its siblings. The price is also known, but our insider isn’t ready to tell us just yet; only thing we know now is that it will cost less than the CLK Black Series in 2008, which was priced at $138,000.

Update: As we’ve learned it will not be powered by the 5.5l twin-turbo V8, but by the current 6.2l V8.

Uncovered: 2012 SLS AMG Roadster

Are you ready for the SLS AMG’s next incarnation? Well, just to give you a sneak peek of what it’s going to look like, here are some spy photographs of the 2012 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Roadster under no camouflage whatsoever. These images are courtesy of the guys at World Car Fans.

The first thing that will probably catch your eye is the shift to a light brown soft top roof. We must admit, it looks kinds of weird and gives the SLS AMG some sort of a softer attitude. Regardless, that’s probably what Mercedes-Benz was shooting for in the roadster version of the next SLS AMG. Ladies, what do you think? Will this pull your attention away from the E-Class Cabrio which is oozing with Sex in the City appeal?

We don’t have to explain why the 2012 roadster no longer has the iconic Gullwing doors. What you can expect, however, is that it will retain the same 6.3-liter V8 which is capable of embarrassing other supercars on the Autobahn with its 563hp and 650Nm output. With a zero to sixty mph sprint time of 4.0 seconds flat, we assure you that the 2012 SLS AMG Roadster is no softie. It can glide at 192 mph tops while keeping you in control and looking good.

As for its public debut? Probably at the Frankfurt auto show in September this year. The timeframe should give you enough time to plan on leaving for Germany.

SLS AMG wears Gulf livery

Racing fans who have indulged in motorsports stretching back to the sixties and seventies will likely be familiar with the baby blue and orange livery colors of Gulf. It has been a trademark livery used by different race car marquees and teams all over the world, and thus has reached icon status. Whether it be on street cars, rally cars, track cars, or racing merchandise products such as clothes and watches, the livery has earned its multitude of fans.

The oil company’s famous colors have even been used on the drift-happy Freightliner. As long as there are people out there looking to uncover the McQueen they have deep inside, the livery will continue to adorn the world of motorsports. So it is no surprise that Mercedes-Benz’s very own SLS AMG supercar comes out with its own version of Gulf colors.

Critics may say that the livery is more highly associated with the Porsche 917. But heck, the SLS AMG carries Gulf colors with its own accord. And you’ve got to admit – it looks fine. Those colors are just begging for a high speed run on the track. That, the SLS AMG can deliver with no second thought. Check out the gallery, folks. Makes you want to paint your own ride with Gulf livery, doesn’t it?

Upcoming A-Class Hot Hatch A Serious S3 & 1-Series M Competitor

HotA 597x397 Upcoming A Class Hot Hatch A Serious S3 & 1 Series M Competitor

After years of watching Audi and BMW corner the segment for small road rockets, Mercedes and AMG are planning to steal the thunder from those S3s and 1-Series Ms with a hot A-class that will boast 350 horsepower. Mercedes unveiled a preview just before the opening of the Shanghai Motor Show. This unveiling was aimed squarely at the German manufacturer’s key target market, China. Compared to the staid design of the standard A-Class, the preview of this hot hatch makes even BMW’s 1-Series M look staid. And with the rumored 350 horsepower mill, it will surely leave competitors straining to keep pace.

If the rumor mills are correct, it will also have high performance all-wheel drive, like its other target hot hatch, the Audi S3. This kind of drivetrain is suited for the anticipated power, and is easy for Mercedes to do as the new A-Class will be based on the same platform as a new diminutive 4×4 vehicle. Mercedes senior designer Mark Fetherston has confirmed that 85 percent of what you see will be carried over to the production model, which is expected to make its appearance in 2013.

Edit: We mistakenly reported that the A-Class AMG version would compete against the Audi S4 and BMW M3. We’ve made the corrections and apologize for not only confusing people, but downright embarrassing ourselves.

Nick Hayden gets keys to his brand new CLS 63 AMG

A brand new Mercedes-Benz CLS 63 AMG was delivered to Ducati MotoGP works driver Nicky Hayden. Actually, the 2006 motorcycle world champion went to Affalterbach himself to receive the keys to his new Mercedes barely a couple of days after finishing third place in race in Jerez, Spain.

Greeting him at Affalterbach was Mercedes-AMG GmbH CEO Ola Kallenius who handed him the keys of his specially-chosen limited series “Edition One” model which combines premium interior detailing with a brand new and exciting grey SHAPE matt paintjob. Hayden’s new car has been upgraded with AMG’s Performance package, upping the ante of its AMG 5.5-liter V8 to 410 kw (557 hp) and a maximum torque of 800 Nm.

The cover of the AMG engine is made of genuine carbon fiber, as well as the spoiler lip on the boot lid. The red brake calipers are a perfect match to AMG Performance’s steering wheel with Alcantara inserts for improved hand grip.

Hayden is now on his ninth season in MotoGP alongside his Italian teammate, crowd-favorite Valentino Rossi. He shares that his “visit to Affalterbach was a great opportunity to see for myself the enthusiasm and precision with which the staff at AMG work. You can really see similarities with Ducati in Bologna.”
