Even with one disappointing performance after another, there are some who now question whether Michael Schumacher would be back with the Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 team next year. Daimler, Aleris Ink Multi-Year Contract

Daimler has just signed a multi-year deal with Aleris, the leading aluminum recycler that supplies specialized alloys to both the United States as well as Europe. Aleris will be providing Daimler with the molten aluminum it needs to produce the cylinder heads of its various vehicle models. “We have a longstanding relationship with Daimler and our partnership continues to be mutually beneficial,” said Aleris chairman and CEO Steven J. Demetriou. “We are proud to provide a high-quality upstream product for Daimler’s premium automobile brands.” Aleris has recently upgraded the capacity of its Deizisau, Germany plant with a fresh fifth furnace so that the additional demand can be met. Prior to the Monaco Grand Prix that saw a good showing from its team, Mercedes-Benz said that it was seeing some progress with the negotiations for the Concorde Agreement. Being the last of the major teams to hold out on agreeing to an extension of that pact, many see that a lot rests upon what goes on between Mercedes-Benz and FIA, as it will definitely impact Formula One and determine the long-term prospects of the Mercedes AMG Petronas team. B-Class Hatch Gets Record ANCAP Safety Score

The Mercedes-Benz B-Class hatchback has just set the record for a crash test score for the Australasian New Car Assessment Program, or ANCAP for short. The test’s highest possible score is 37, and the B-Class garnered a near-perfect 36.78—quite a bit higher than the previous best of 36.59 scored by Toyota Aurion. Now, the B-Class joins the elite company of other ANCAP 5-star rating scorers: the Aurion, Ford Fiesta, Lexus CT200, Toyota Prius, and Volkswagen Polo. Another race, another mixed finish for Mercedes AMG Petronas. The 2012 Monaco Grand Prix ended with Red Bull’s Mark Webber on top, followed by Nico Rosberg of Mercedes and Fernando Alonso of Ferrari. Michael Schumacher, who led everyone else in the qualifying sessions making a five-place grid penalty seem negligible, ended his Monte Carlo campaign with a thud after retiring in lap 65. It was yet another disappointing race for Schumacher, who was not able to finish after fuel pressure problems in his car caused the German to cut his stint short.
