Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton is your 2014 F1 champion

In the end, the epic battle to decide who will be the ultimate Formula 1 driver for the 2014 season simply did not materialize. There would be no showdown, no gut-wrenching finish, as Nico Rosberg encountered technical problems at the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which meant that Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton had a clear path to victory. Hamilton took the race win and the driver’s championship, which was his to lose in the first place with a 17-point lead entering the event. This made Hamilton the first Mercedes team driver to claim an F1 title since Juan Manuel Fangio did so back in 1955. Hamilton also became the fourth British double-champion in history,… Continue Reading »

Abu Dhabi GP: Rosberg takes pole, sets up winner-take-all race against Mercedes teammate Hamilton

The battle for the 2014 drivers’ championship is going down the wire. Nico Rosberg took pole position in qualifying for the 2014 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the final race in the F1 season calendar that’s worth double the championship points. His Mercedes teammate Lewis Hamilton qualified into P2, making this the eighth straight front-row lockout by the Silver Arrows team and setting up a final battle that will determine the top driver this season. Apart from that, this result means that a Mercedes driver won the pole position in 18 out of the 19 races in the season, and the team has also secured the front row 12 times in total. On another note, Mercedes power… Continue Reading »

What a way to kick off the fourth quarter for what is turning out to be a strong 2014 for Mercedes-Benz. Mercedes F1: Hamilton wins United States Grand Prix ahead of Rosberg

Can Lewis Hamilton hold off Nico Rosberg? Based on how he dominated his Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 teammate at the United States Grand Prix, the answer is: he most certainly can. Hamilton was fairly outpaced by Rosberg during the qualifying session for the race, but the Brit had no problems taking care of the race proper. He took the chequered flag 4.3 seconds ahead of his teammate, and more than 25 seconds ahead of third-placer Daniel Ricciardo. This fourth-straight win allowed Hamilton, who has 316 points now, to extend his lead to 24 over Rosberg, who has 292. Every point counts as we head to the final two races, the second of… Continue Reading »

US shale boom not very beneficial for Mercedes-Benz owners

With shale gas booming in the United States, regular gas prices are being driven down to some $3.03 per gallon, which would be the lowest figure in the past four years according to a Bloomberg report. However, if you happen to be driving a Mercedes-Benz, you’re not likely to enjoy the benefits of this new energy development. The price gap between premium gas used to make high-end/luxury vehicles run and regular gas also happens to be at its widest in the last six years. That means the shale boom isn’t positively affecting the price of premium high-octane gas, so Mercedes drivers aren’t enjoying any new benefits out of shale. Shale gas can be… Continue Reading »
