[DTM] Wickens Claims First Career Podium

After a tough qualifying session, there was some light at the end of the tunnel for the Mercedes-Benz DTM team. Robert Wickens managed to claim his first podium finish in the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters, climbing all the way from 13th on the starting grid all the way to P3 at the end of the race held at the historic Brands Hatch circuit. Gary Paffett was the guy who actually finished in P3, but he was slapped with a 5-second penalty after going past the speed limit in a sector during a yellow flag situation. Many racing game fans got a treat when Gran Turismo 6 was announced recently at the game’s 15th Anniversary event at the famed Silverstone circuit, which also happens to be one of the seven new locations in the game. That’s not the only new thing slated for GT6, as three new Mercedes-Benz AMG models are also set to make their virtual debut: the SLS AMG GT3, the E63 AMG, and the A45 AMG. [DTM] Mercedes AMG Preps for Brands Hatch Weekend

After a solid opener at Hockenheimring, the Mercedes-Benz team is ready to get on with the second round of the 2013 Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters season at Brands Hatch, England, to be held this weekend. The 1.929 km Indy Circuit will be the eighth time DTM comes over to Brands Hatch. This makes it the shortest DTM track on the current calendar, and it features a top speed of 225kph or greater at the start/finish straight. Mercedes-Benz has just launched a sales and marketing campaign that focuses on the automaker’s coupe, cabriolet, and roadster lines. The campaign, dubbed ‘Mercedes-Benz dream cars’, is underway in core markets and is intended to increase the sales of the featured models throughout the year. If the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix was anything to go by, it would seem that the Mercedes AMG Petronas team still lacks something significant in order to turn solid practices and great qualifying performance into actual race wins and a good amount of championship points. Nico Rosberg noted the ‘growing gap’ between the Silver Arrows and the top three teams [Red Bull, Ferrari, Lotus].
