AMG looking at diesel engines for developement?

Audi set the wheels in motion and now AMG has decided to join the ride, with more diesel. Recently, Audi unveiled the R8 V12 TDI which sent reverberations through the automotive industry. Most of the people were not convinced of such a claim until they saw the product themselves. AMG, Mercedes’ performance division is looking forward to develop high performance diesel engines in the near future. One of the engines is expected to be a V8 diesel, producing 700Nm torque or more with better long-distance cruising efficiency. RECALL II: 2007 SLR MCLAREN

It was not supposed to happen, but, to err is human. Mercedes-Benz is recalling 3 models of its 2007 SLR McLaren on the account of incorrectly installed windshields. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website says that “If a crash occurs, the windshield may not be retained, increasing the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant”. It also added that “either the primer or activator was missing at the time of installation.” The recall is expected to begin this month. The dealer’s job will deal with removing the windshields, cleaning and reinstalling them correctly with primer and activator, as instructed by NHTSA. When Mercedes plays dice: The R Class disaster

The infamous R-class from the Mercedes stable received a massive blow last week when a top Mercedes official admitted that the car didn’t live up to their original plan. But Mercedes didn’t spend much time mourning and is planning a replacement already, with the hope of topping the popularity charts. Low car sales would probably motivate the new R-class to a be more aggressive wagon and quite different from the current one. The only question remaining is whether it would be able to drive its way into the hearts and garages of customers especially with tough competition coming from BMW X6 crossover.

Total Recall

Mercedes-Benz USA have recalled 9,004 cars out of the 12,580 cars they sold last year. The recall pertains to diesel models (Bluetec) which according to reports, have a problem with their crankshaft position sensors. A crankshaft position sensor is a key element controlling fuel injector pulse timing which is an underpinning factor for combustion to happen or in other words- the engine to work. The models affected by the recall are 2007 E320 Bluetec, ML320 CDI, and GL320 CDI models. Failure of the sensor would cut fuel supply to the engine, a condition similar to having an empty fuel tank. Mercedes-Benz V6 engine in the Top 10

Just as we finished publishing an article on the technological lineaments of Mercedes cars, fresh news trickles in to further justify the published post. The 3.0-litre turbodiesel V6 featured in the Mercedes E320 CDI has been chosen as one of the best engines in the United States. Ward’s Auto World had looked closely at a lot of other strong contenders and the winners list include Toyota’s 3.5-litre V6 from the Lexus IS 350 and Ford’s 4.6-litre V8 from the Mustang Shelby GT/Bullitt. Camouflaged S-Class spotted doing rounds

Here is some interesting news picked up from a Mercedes-Benz forum. A camouflaged S-Class has been spotted by one of the members, doing test runs. It is not very clear where or when, but the photos reveal part of the story. The current S-Class was launched in 2005, and its time the representatives from Stuttgart revised the aging exteriors and gave it some punch.
