Mercedes-Benz Posts Record Sales in First Seven Months of 2007

Stuttgart – With deliveries of 103,700 passenger vehicles in July, the Mercedes Car Group has slightly increased its sales result compared to the same month last year (102,300 units). Since the beginning of the year, 721,400 units of the Mercedes-Benz, Maybach, and smart brands have been sold all over the world (January-July 2006: 729,600 units). Sales of Mercedes-Benz vehicles rose slightly in July 2007 to 93,800 units (July 2006: 92,700 units). Deliveries of Mercedes-Benz passenger vehicles rose to 669,500 units from January through July, setting a new record (January-July 2006: 658,000). Mercedes-Benz To Launch Stop-Start Technology Across Car Range

Sponsor: Mercedes Brake Parts Writing in Auto Week, British automotive journalist Tony Lewin reports that Thomas Weber, head of R&D at DaimlerChrysler, has announced that Mercedes-Benz Car Group will launch stop-start technology across its entire line-up, beginning with the A and B Class ranges in September. Sources quoted indicate that Valeo will supply its StARS belt-driven stop-start system for the A and B class models, as already adopted for the new smart fortwo city car and some of Citroà«n’s C2 and C3 hatchbacks. Mercedes-Benz Presents “DiesOtto” – Petrol Engine With Diesel Genes

Mercedes-Benz has announced that it has combined all the advantages of both petrol and diesel engines in its “DiesOtto” powertrain. Its potential is indicated by the prospect of a mild-hybrid-assisted 1.8-litre engine giving 47 mpg in a future S Class-size car. The new technology includes features such as direct gasoline injection, turbocharging and variable compression, but at the core of the innovation lies controlled auto ignition, a combustion process similar to that of a diesel. F1: Hamilton Will Race After Crash

LEWIS Hamilton will drive in today’s European Grand Prix in Germany. The 22-year-old Tewin talent has been given the all clear by doctors to race after his 150mph (241km/h) crash at the Nürburgring yesterday afternoon during the final session of qualifying. In a statement released this morning, McLaren confirmed that the world championship leader from Herts would get behind the wheel. Lewis Hamilton Escapes Injury in High-speed Crash

. Lewis Hamilton has escaped injury after a high-speed crash during the final qualifying session at the Nurburgring. The rookie was halfway through a rapid first flying lap on new tyres when his McLaren’s right-front wheel exploded on the 150mph turn-in to the Michael Schumacher S-bend. After ploughing into the tyre barrier at what seemed almost unabated speed, Hamilton took some time to get out of the cockpit, raising concerns that he may have injured his foot or leg.
