Alonso Delivers Monza Masterclass

Alonso Wins Italian GP

Fernando Alonso trimmed McLaren team-mate Lewis Hamilton’s title advantage to just three points by delivering a Monza masterclass in the Italian Grand Prix.

The world champion stamped his authority on the race from the off and was never challenged en route to his first win at the historic venue and his fourth victory of 2007.

Hamilton was unable to match Alonso’s pace but protected his points lead by putting a bold pass on Kimi Raikkonen after the Ferrari driver used a one-stop strategy to leapfrog the rookie following his second pit visit.

The 1-2 result was the best possible tonic for the beleaguered McLaren team on a traumatic weekend in which the latest developments in the spying controversy threatened to reduce the race to a mere sideshow.

Alonso Takes Pole Position Ahead of Team-mate Lewis Hamilton

Alonso Wins Pole Position

Fernando Alonso underlined the superiority he has enjoyed all weekend at Monza by dominating qualifying to head up an all-McLaren front row for the Italian Grand Prix.

The world champion ultimately took pole position by just 0.037s from team-mate Lewis Hamilton, but his true advantage was disguised by the fact that he aborted his final run once it became clear that he could not be beaten.

New Mercedes-Benz SLK 55 AMG Black Series: It’s Time to Fly

MB SLK 55 AMG Black Series

The famous F1 or SLR lookalike nose has finally justified its appearance. Well, it could be a potential überflieger, a car that Porsche drivers won’t make happy at all.

After shifting the CLK63 AMG into overdrive with the Black Series treatment, Mercedes is repeating the process, this time with the SLK55 AMG. Thanks to a massaged 5.5-liter V-8 that now makes 400 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque — up 40 and 7, respectively — and lightweight components that shave 99 pounds off the car’s weight, the SLK55 AMG Black Series goes 0-62 in 4.5 seconds — 0.4 second quicker than the regular SLK 55 — with a top speed of 173 mph.

The Magnificent 19

mercedes_hall_iaa_2005_s1.jpg

Mercedes-Benz’s director of corporate communications, Geoff Day, announced a great event for the upcoming Frankfurt auto show: Mercedes-Benz will be introducing 19 cars in 15 minutes.

These won’t all be new cars, with probably a mix of concepts and updates, but Mercedes-Benz intends to make a big splash this year. We expect to see some sort of hybrid in the mix, although we couldn’t pin him down on the details. The most firm information we got was the previously leaked F700 concept, rumored to be a big luxury car, which will feature the DiesOtto engine.

Historic Mercedes ‘Silver Arrow’ at SeeRed 2007

MB Silver Arrow

To mark the 70th anniversary of The Donington Grand Prix, a Mercedes-Benz W125 racing car will return to celebrate its only competitive appearance in factory hands on British soil.

Event Director Julian Ghosh said “Even by today’s standards, the performance of the famous German Grand Prix teams back in 1937 must have been staggering. How fortunate we are to be able to relive some of this in 2007 with one of those actual Silver Arrows”.

The W125, with its 5.6 litre supercharged 8 cylinder engine producing some 640 bhp, will be in action on the Donington Park track on both days of The Vintage Sports-Car Club’s VSCC SeeRed 2007 event and will complement the weekend’s historic racing programme that varies from Edwardian Racers to Group C Endurance Cars.

Prodrive F1 Team Will Use Mercedes Engines in 2008

MP4-22

In Red Bull-Toro Rosso style, McLaren and F1’s twelfth team Prodrive next year could use essentially the same Formula One chassis.
Although news about David Richards’ incoming team has been sparing in recent times, it is reported this week that Prodrive is still on track to debut in Melbourne next March.
Specialist German magazine Auto Motor und Sport claims that with three substantial Prodrive sponsors now on board, McLaren is now working closely with Richards’ outfit to put together effectively a ‘B’ Mercedes-powered team.
To simplify the cross-over between the two teams, and because of time constraints, Prodrive is likely to run the 2008-specification MP4-23 single seater, probably with an identical Mercedes-Benz V8 power plant to its works sister, as the new privateer-friendly rules will probably allow.
Alongside McLaren test drivers Pedro de la Rosa and Gary Paffett as possible Prodrive racers, meanwhile, is Paffett’s French-Canadian DTM colleague Bruno Spengler, the magazine added.

Mercedes Benz F700: a New Concept Car Planned for IAA

Mercedes Benz F600 Hygenius

Channel 4 reports that Mercedes-Benz is going to unveil a concept car called F700, a form of luxury car at this year IAA (Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung) in Frankfurt, Germany.

The F700 will showcase Mercedes’ innovative DiesOtto engine, a turbocharged 1.8-litre, four-cylinder unit that combines diesel-style automatic ignition with a conventional petrol spark plug system on start-up and under heavy accelerative demands. This engine is capable of a 235bhp output, but with near-40mpg fuel economy.

If we still remember, at the last Tokyo Motor Show, a car named F600 Hygenius (on the picture above) was presented, a fuel-cell concept. Well, we think this F700 won’t be any different; it also showcases the latest Mercedes engine technology.

Best Illustrations of the 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-Class

Mercedes-Benz E500
Edmunds and Brand Priddy have published a couple illustration on how the next gen E-class may look like. The pictures are pretty similar to what we showed you a couple months back`, which gives us somewhat of a confirmation that the final product will look like the illustrations.

It’s still several years off, but the redesigned E-Class has been in the works for some time now. Various test mules have revealed subtle changes that should give this midsize luxury sedan from Mercedes-Benz a more dramatic look than the current model.

This car looks fantastic. I can’t wait to see an AMG version of this beauty.

New TAG Heuer SLR for Mercedes-Benz

Tag Heuer SLR Wristwatch

In 2004 Tag Heuer introduced the first SLR watch exclusively made for Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren car owners. Now Tag Heuer introduced a new TAG Heuer SLR for Mercedes-Benz.

The new 2007 TAG Heuer SLR for Mercedes-Benz comes in a limited edition of 3,500 pieces. The new edition of the Chronograph has captured some of the most distinctive design elements of the latest version of the SLR Dream Machine, the famous SLR 722 edition powered by a 650HP engine and reaching 337 km/h: the painted exposed black carbon front spoiler and palladium-grey wheels rim spider have inspired the titanium-carbide black tachymeter bezel, while the red SLR lettering and red-painted brake calipers are echoed by the red painted hands.
