Video: C63 AMG Black Series says let’s dance

Having been privileged to ride shotgun in a Mercedes-Benz quite recently, I was awed by the extreme comfort I felt despite my driver gunning it in first gear. The auto shifted into second gear so seamlessly that only veteran manual drivers would be able to tell that an upshift actually occurred. I’m definitely a fan of German engineering, especially with the brand. However, most Mercedes-Benz drivers only get to see the light side of the tri-pointed star. For the adventurous few, there is the dark side which can only be uncovered by pushing the envelope. And the C63 AMG Black Series makes pushing the envelope so much easier. The video… Continue Reading »

Mercedes F1 chief says no to new Concorde Agreement

Mercedes F1 Chief Executive Nick Fry has finally broken his silence amidst the Concorde Agreement deal being offered to the team. He refuses to sign it as talks with Bernie Ecclestone fail to gain traction. Fry believes that the F1 honcho is peddling chunkier offers to rivals Red Bull, McLaren and Ferrari. Fry warns that “If CVC wish to float Formula 1, I think they need this resolved fairly quickly, possibly more than we need it resolved.” He also waters down rumors that Mercedes will be leaving Formula One. He says that “the mindset is absolutely in capital letters: Mercedes-Benz wishes to be in Formula 1. I would add that… Continue Reading »

29 cents a minute lets you buzz around Berlin in a Smart car

Can’t get enough of Smart cars? Then the place to be is Berlin. The place is crawling with these cars, which according to Daimler aim to take over a big slice of the city’s growing urban auto per-minute rental pie. Just last month, Daimler decided to deploy the largest fleet of its Car2go short-term rental service program, turning a blind eye to BMW’s own DriveNow two-to-one service. It’s all part of a grand scheme to lure in not only drivers in Berlin but in urban regions across Europe in the midst of fading interest in car ownership. Car2go chief Robert Henrich shares that “it’s natural that competition shows up. It shows… Continue Reading »

Daimler and BMW join forces on EV project

Rivals can become the best of friends. At least, when trying to come up with a car project that will enrich the lives of millions. Too good to be true? You better believe it. Daimler AG and BMW are combining their valued resources into a project known as the Visio.M. It actually involves other major players as well, including the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research which is shelling out almost 11 million euros (or $14 million US greens), the Technical University of Munich and other big names in the technology and automotive industries. Don’t be misled – it’s not a super EV car dream project that they’re working… Continue Reading »

The new M-Class: More miles at less cost

Nice guys finish last eh? Apparently not if you’re driving the new generation Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV. With its massive build – five doors, increased length and width, less height, heightened arm and leg space – comes more power. That’s right — more power. With a smaller engine, that is. Even without the old V6 3-liter turbo, the new twin-turbo diesel 2100 inline four powerplant sheds the same output at less cost – roughly two-thirds the fuel economy of the old engine. Greater efficiency comes at a price though. Less of a price, actually. It’s price tag is $10,000 less. You get 44 miles per galon, a 1,450km range out of… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz rules at DTM Hockenheim

In a brilliant display of racing supremacy, Mercedes-Benz driver Gary Paffett stunned an audience of 71,000 at Sunday’s DTM race season opener by beating drivers from rival German manufacturer teams BMW and Audi. Despite a slight mishap at the start of the race and multiple brushes with other cars, 31-year-old Parfett shows he’s got the right attitude and skills to beat everyone else, including his teammate Jamie Green, to the chequered flag. It’s Parfett’s 18th win since racing in DTM and his fourth win on the Hockenheim track. He says that “last year was really bad for me. Nevertheless, I didn’t lose my self-confidence. Great, the way it has started… Continue Reading »
