Video of Self-Driving Mercedes-Benz Actros in Action

The last time we saw a video of the Mercedes-Benz self-driving truck in action, it was during its unveiling. But its testing was only limited within its maker’s driving facility, and the only vehicles you can see along its way are its fellow three-pointed star branded autos. A few days ago, it was finally unleashed on the highway with actual traffic. Driven by Daimler Board Member Dr. Wolfgang Bernhard while being accompanied by the Prime Minister of Baden-Württemberg Winfried Kretschmann in the front passenger seat, the semi-autonomous Mercedes-Benz Actros was tested from the A8 road, between Denkendorf and Stuttgart airport, towards Karlsruhe, and back to its point of origin. As we have mentioned in an earlier report,… Continue Reading »

Mercedes-Benz Actros Literally Dwarfed by Its Cargo

Mercedes-Benz USA tweeted a photo last week showing the amazing power of the Mercedes-Benz Actros. The photo, which can be seen above, displays the Mercedes-Benz Actros carrying a massive mining truck. The cargo of the Mercedes truck is so huge that the vehicle carrying it looks like a miniature vehicle in comparison to it. According to an article in Road & Track, the usual mining trucks can be anywhere between 180 to 240 tons. But, the weight can even go more than that. Notably, a behemoth Caterpillar 797B mining truck weighs approximately 308 tons. As seen in the picture, the width of the two-lane highway alone is not enough to cover the mining… Continue Reading »

The proportion of orders for Euro VI variants increase by the day, which is no surprise when you consider a customer survey of European customers from 12 countries showed that the customers managed to… Continue Reading »

Here’s another award for the Mercedes-Benz Actros long-distance truck. This time, the accolade is the inaugural ‘Truck of the Decade’ award in Ireland, an award given by the Fleet Transport magazine. The award was based on votes through a variety of sources: Fleet Transport readers, Twitter and Facebook users, and attendees at the Mondello Truck Show. Voters chose from among the winners of the Irish ‘Truck of the Year’ award over the last decade, and the stiff competition faced by Mercedes-Benz included bets from Volvo, MAN, and Scania. Perhaps a big factor that helped the Actros win is the fact that it won the publication’s Truck of the Year award… Continue Reading »
