Mercedes Partners with Artemide for Futuristic Pendant Lamp

Giancarlo Perlas March 14, 2016

Mercedes-Benz, having made a big mark in the automotive scene is also changing the world in other aspects. The brand has extended its influence in private jets, helicopters, power boats, clothing, apartments and others that are crucial in our everyday lives.

Recently, Mercedes-Benz Style had a cooperation with Artemide, a famous Italian light design company, to come up with a futuristic-looking pendant lamp. The result is Ameluna, which is characterized by the Mercedes design philosophy according to Daimler.

Ameluna features the same dynamic curve found in the cars of the three-pointed star brand, which bears a high degree of sensual purity. It has 288 LEDs to offer optimum illumination to the room it is in. The light is designed to spread throughout the entire lamp using an innovative optic solution developed in the optoelectronic research lab of Artemide. The effect makes the body of the pendant lamp completely glow. Another sweet trait of the product is that it can be managed using a dedicated app.

The pendant lamp is 800 millimeters in diameter and 150 millimeters tall. The transparent materials used in its are acrylic-based. Its output is at 44 watts.

The name Ameluna is an interplay of the names Artemide, Mercedes-Benz and Luna. The last is an Italian word meaning moon. An extra 8-watt spotlight situated 1.5 meters above the lamp is the source of its wide range of color effects. It is similar to the concept wherein the moon reflects the lighting offered by the sun.
