Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 3 million units Hymer

Mercedes-Benz delivered the 3,000,000th Sprinter van to Bad Walsee, Germany-based camper van manufacturer Hymer AG, setting yet another milestone for Daimler’s incredibly successful commercial vehicle.

Since Mercedes-Benz established its large van segment way back in 1995, the Sprinter has indeed come a long way, spawning a wide range of variants from the utilitarian to the premium. The van is versatile enough to be tapped by companies like Hymer to turn into camper vans.

“What’s more, for our partners the Sprinter provides the perfect base for a wide and varied range of bodies, from ambulances to luxury motor homes,” said Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Volker Morhinweg, who was at the press event to present the milestone unit to Hymer.

Getting to three million units in a span of a little over 20 years is a tremendous achievement for the brand and for the segment, and the Sprinter is seen by Mercedes-Benz as a pillar of its global growth strategy, ‘Mercedes-Benz Vans goes global’.

According to Morhinweg, there are still many plans involving the flagship Sprinter and that the goal is to ensure the continued success of the lineup this year. The line scored a record year in 2015, with a whopping 194,200 units sold.

The Sprinter now serves markets in 130 countries, and is the market leader in many of those, such as China, South Africa, Argentina, and of course, Germany. Some 55 percent of the unit sales come from Western Europe, while the US is the largest single-country market for the commercial van–Mercedes-Benz delivered 28,600 units to the US in 2015.
