Daimler AG reported another successful year in 2015. According to the Global Media Site of the company, Mercedes-Benz recorded an overall 1,871,511 vehicles sold worldwide in the year that just ended. The figure translates to an increase of 13.4%, which marks the brand’s fifth consecutive record year.

Mercedes also ended the year strong with 178,017 units sold in December. It’s a 9.1% growth based on a year-on-year comparison. In addition, the last quarter of the said year is highest in the three-pointed star marque’s 2015 record books with 495,159 units sold, which displays a rise of 8.8% compared to the same quarter of its previous year.

Daimler CEO and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Dr. Dieter Zetsche revealed that unit sales in all the three core regions of Mercedes namely Europe, NAFTA and the Asia-Pacific all showed strong performances. Furthermore, China is still the brand’s best market with 373,459 units sold in 2015. That’s a 32.6% growth, despite the economic turbulence the giant Asian country has been experiencing.

Ola Kaellenius, Daimler’s Member of the Board and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing and Sales, remains positive for 2016. He predicts that the upcoming E-Class, including the new S-Class Cabrio, C-Class Coupe, SL and SLK, will contribute to another solid year for Mercedes.

Kaellenius attributes the achievement of Mercedes in 2015 to their SUV and compact cars range. He noted that for the first time, more than half a million units were sold in each segment.

Lastly, the company shows strong faith in their hybridization efforts. They see the introduction of more hybrid vehicle options for customers as another key element in bringing more success to the brand this year.
