Thieves ran away with five current-model Mercedes-Benz cars worth over $200,000 combined from the Mercedes of Fairfield dealership, in a spree carried out over the course of one week.

The dealership had not been alerted to the thefts until Yonkers, NY police informed the dealership that a couple of the cars were spotted on a city street bearing the Mercedes of Fairfield logo on the plate holders. The two cars found were a 2015 ML250 (retail price at $49,800) and a 2015 GL450 (retail price $74,050). The rest of the stolen units had been found in the Bronx, according to the police.

A subsequent review of surveillance footage has led the authorities to believe that the cars were stolen between the 16th and 21st of July from the parking lot of the dealership. According to officials of the dealership, someone may have had access to a master key for the cars’ lockboxes. The dealership even reported a damaged lockbox to the police on July 21, althought it was still unknown at that time that there had been a number of cars already stolen.

It looks like the thieves had quite a bit of a road trip, taking the cars across the country from California all the way to New York. Intent is unclear and the cars were just found abandoned by the police.
