Daimler AG Works With Qualcomm On Wireless Charging

Future Mercedes-Benz models may feature the latest technology in the market with the strategic collaboration between Daimler and Qualcomm, as shown on a worldcarfans.com report.

While the two companies did not reveal any details about the deal, they said the initial stage of the agreement will concentrate on wireless charging technology for use inside the vehicle, 3G/4G connectivity and the implementation of the Halo wireless electric vehicle charging technology of Qualcomm. The WEVC technology of Qualcomm makes it unnecessary to plug in electric and hybrid vehicles to charge them.

Daimler R&D head Dr. Thomas Webber emphasized the importance of remaining on the “cutting edge of technology” as the company provides unique experiences for its customers. Dr. Weber added that the company is raring to explore other areas of cooperation with an innovative tech company like Qualcomm.

For his part, Derek Aberle, president of Qualcomm, said the work of the company with Daimler AG is part of the company’s sponsorship of the Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team since their work in the motorsports industry promotes progress and innovation in the industry. Aberle added that automobiles are considered as always-on connectivity extensions, which makes it essential for the company to use its expertise in providing in-car experiences similar to the convenience and ease of smartphones.

The report on the collaboration between Daimler and Qualcomm comes after the first appearance of Android Auto on the Hyundai Sonata.
