What the Hell is This Mercedes-Benz Ad All About

The YouTube channel of Mercedes-Benz Vans uploaded a new ad for the Vito last October 2. The title of the video was “Dirty Driving”. If you think that the Mario Kart 8-themed ad of the Mercedes-Benz GLA was hideous enough, this ad would probably top it off in terms of weirdness.

While I had so much respect and admiration to the marketing division of the three-pointed star brand for bringing up awesome ads, this is just another proof that they are only human and they can also have their epic-fail moments.

First, this Mercedes-Benz ad is just overly nostalgic, having to feature an 80’s song from a movie hit that even most people at their 30’s nowadays would no longer relate to. That is unless, the people at the helm of the commercial are specifically targeting the 40-something and above demographics who used to love the Dirty Dancing movie and its theme song.

The song might be forgivable to some, and there may be viewers too who are less than 40-year old who may like it. However, the presentation brings weirdness to another level.

The video starts with the stunning Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe and the behemoth Actros in some sort of a dance. It is still cool at this point. But the next scene becomes too suggestive, showing the two making out, romancing each other, and producing an offspring.

What comes out of it is a Mercedes-Benz Vito, something that might leave a lot of us scratching our heads. I mean, I have nothing against the Mercedes-Benz Vito. Sure, the Vito might share few technologies possessed by the two, but it certainly cannot hold a candle to the striking S-Class Coupe or measure up to the astounding features of the Actros. Not even close.
