Team Mercedes May Rethink Strategy If Gap Narrows Between Its Rivals

Team Mercedes drivers Hamilton and Rosberg gained a one-two finish in Bahrain.
Currently, Nico Rosberg leads the rankings in F1 in terms of score with 79 points. Following the young German closely is Lewis Hamilton with 75 points.

The two are currently the most dominant drivers in Formula One. Since the second race of the season, Team Mercedes has gained one-two victories with its two drivers.

It should be noted that the gap between Hamilton and the third placer, Fernando Alonso, is 34 points. This is the reason why the management of Team Mercedes is allowing them to engage each other in the racetrack.

So far, the impressive performances of its two drivers have given people something fresh to look forward to at every race, contrary to the Red Bull and Ferrari-controlled races last season. The F1 community has also been rooting for a formidable opponent for Sebastial Vettel who is presently looking for a fifth championship.

However, Hamilton and Rosberg’s freedom in deciding how they finish their races may come to a halt once other competitors narrow the gap in the score. This was stated recently by Toto Wolff during his interview with BBC Sport.

“The narrower that margin gets, the more you have to look out,” said Team Mercedes’ boss. Then, he added, “Our rule is that the competition is enemy number one, not your team-mate, so there might be situations in the race where you have to consider that, but we will see what happens.”

Hamilton believes that it won’t be long until Renault manages to fix the issues connected to its engines. When that happens, the Team Mercedes drivers might already start paying more attention to their side mirrors than race each other.
