The change in the name is linked to the move of AMG to use a smaller 4.0L V8 engine for its latest generation of the sports sedan. Despite the use of a smaller engine, its twin-turbocharged system will allow it to match or surpass the 457 HP output of the C63 AMG.

The upcoming model will also feature the seven-speed AMG SPEEDSHIFT dual-clutch transmission as well as the AMG Drive Unit, which will allow owners to modify the numerous settings of the vehicle. The replacement of the C63 AMG is expected to have the rear-biased all-wheel-drive system of AMG as the standard when it will be released in the US market.
The most recent prototype of the AMG model of the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class is still heavily-camouflaged. However, a number of the features of an AMG model are shown, including the A-wing front lip spoiler and square-shared exhaust tips. The final look of the vehicle may have a similar aggressive appearance as the 2014 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.
The replacement of the C63 is expected to join the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class lineup in the later part of next year. It is also expected that the coupe and wagon models will be launched in the coming year as well as a convertible version of the vehicle.
