The race at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg this past weekend could have gone much better for the Mercedes-Benz team. While there were three Mercedes AMG drivers who finished in the points, it’s hard to get excited when the best finisher is P7 for Christian Vietoris in his DTM Mercedes AMG C-Coupe.

Bruno Spengler won the race, followed by Marco Wittman and his teammate and former F1 driver Timo Glock. All three race for BMW, which now has its three racing teams taking the top three spots in the team standings. BMW also paces the manufacturer’s championship tally so far, over a hundred points ahead of Audi and Mercedes-Benz.

Gary Paffett finished ninth, while Pascal Wehrlein managed to get the final championship point at stake in the race by rounding out the top 10.

“Unfortunately, days like today are as much a part of motor racing as winning,” said Mercedes-Benz motorsport head Toto Wolff, clearly disappointed by the result. “Congratulations to BMW.”

It was a tough race for Mercedes-Benz, and we can only hope the team manages to bounce back come the next race on June 16th at the EuroSpeedway Lausitz.
