When the Romeo Ferraris Mercedes team paired up former F1 driver Vitantonio Liuzzi with former Superstars Series champion Thomas Biagi, everyone expected great things. The duo proved them right this weekend, with Liuzzi scoring a dominant win in the opening race in the morning, and Biagi following it up with his own win in the afternoon.
Aside from the separate wins in Monza by the two teammates, they also made both races a 1-2 finish. Liuzzi led all laps in the kickoff race, although Biagi was still close behind and was just 0.589 seconds behind by the time the race ended.
As for the second race, Biagi worked his way up (because of the reverse grid) from a fourth-row start all the way to second in short time, before overtaking erstwhile race leader Andrea Bacci of CAAL Racing Mercedes some laps later. Meanwhile, Liuzzi overcame a sluggish start and also climbed up to take second, 2.77 seconds after Biagi crossed the finish line.
In addition, Roma Mercedes’ Luigi Ferrara managed to finish third in both races.
